My son is making his first communion at the end of the month. Does anyone have any great ideas for 1st communion gifts for boys? I plan on getting him a rosary but am having a hard time thinking of ideas to share with others. (people who ask what they should get for him)

It was easy for my daughter. She received bracelets and necklaces and such. I am just having a hard time for him.

Thank you.

A 2012 commemorative coin or proof set as a keepsake and it might spark an interest in coin collecting.

Aww that's so special :)

If these are repeats, I apologize. My brothers I remember getting money bonds, bookmarks, personalized bibles, rosaries, little books of all the saints (I never got one, wish I had), cuff links, ties (any kind of church attire accessories)...

Congratulations! My youngest son will make his first communion in May. My mom got my oldest a St. Christopher medal on a silver chain for his first communion 7 years ago, and he has never taken it off. He loves it! She's getting my youngest the same thing. That's one idea for you.

Our son loves reading, so I'm thinking about getting him a book about the Saints. I might get him a journal, too. We got our oldest a leather bound journal with a cross on it. He really liked that. Our boys already have rosaries, but that's a thought, too.

Enjoy the special day!

how about a pocket bible? books are good! if you have a catholic store near where you live, they have these name cards that you can put into a clear plastic stand and it will give you the Biblical description of what your son's name means. For example if your son is David, it will have that in bold letters across the top and then give an example like "David comes from the name... and means Mighty" or something like that. I did one for a few boys. It would be their first and middle name.

I received a small leather-bound book about the saints for my first communion way back when. I would bring it to church and occupy myself by reading the stories.

My husband received some figurines. I think he has one with Joseph and another of a little boy praying. Books are good. I'm sure you could find a Catholic Prayer book for kids. I also like the idea of a crucifix for his wall.

You could always get him a Veggie Tales CD or DVD. Those are a lot of fun and a little less serious/formal.

Any special Bible or religious book would work. They have so many books now that are appropriate for children! At my first communion, I received a cross with prayer hands for my bedroom wall. I think that would be appropriate for a boy as well. A St. Christopher medal is a good choice too. If you have a Catholic store around, I would refer people to that store.

We found necklaces of saints for each of my step kids when they took first comunion. My SS we got a St. Francis, but St. Christopher is easier to find.

My parents gave both of my boys watches. They still wear them several years later. We gave them engraved photo frames to remember the occassion. Their godparents gave them money.
