Help!! I have been living with my fiance for 2 years, we have a 19mos old together. When we met I told him I didn't like him smoking pot. He said he'd stop..well 2 yrs later he still hasn't. The worse part is it makes him so irritable and moody the morning after. He of course is in complete denial of that. My sister had this experience with her ex, she says I should just give up now. I have had enough of him getting upset over nothing first thing in the morning. I don't want my son growing up around that kind of behavior. I have been hesitant to insist he leave because of my financial situation. My house needs foundation work, so I don't think it will sell. My plan was to move to a smaller more affordable place. But now...I don't know. Still, I can't keep putting up with him going off for no reason 3-4 times a week. Has anyone else had this experience with pot. He insist it has no after effects..am I imagining it..even if I am , that doesn't excuse his bad behavior. We have big fights about it, then later he acts like nothing happened. Then I go along with it, because I'm worried about $. I've even tried looking for a roommate and had no responses. What can/should I do??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I hung on for another month, then he stopped paying half the mortgage. 3 months later I finally got him to move out with the help of the police. I didn't want to go that far,but I had to. I rented out the house and moved to an apt. My son and I have adjusted. My ex hasn't stopped smoking and has no desire to, so we're moving on. He sees my son 1x a week and does pay child support. Still I feel as if our world has been turned upside down. I had resigned from my full time job last August because he said he'd take care of everything. So, I've been looking for something but haven't had much luck. I'll probably go back to school next summer for a masters degree that will help me get a good job.

Girl you need to run, not walk, but run!

Is this what you want around your child, you are too old to be putting up with this not to mention, your child to be surrounded around drugs.

If you are looking for a cure for his behavior, there is not one, and this is not your imagination. He wont quit because there is no reason to...you and your child are not even worth enought to him for him to stop. You know you are better than that!

You simply have two choices, stay and suck it up Oh, and do not forget your child will be raised around drugs and chances are will use also. Hopefully it will only be smoke.

Or you can take control over your own life, ask God for help, and do what you already know is the right thing to do for yourself and your child.

Is it hard? damn right it was hard! I left a man that I loved but I know I did what was best for me and my kid.

Well, if you are worried about money and he is somking it 3-4 times a week, that money could be going to better things. No, it doesn't appear that he will change as long as you are putting up with it. It doesn't even matter whether or not it is making him edgy the next morning. If you are looking for a way out, you already have your answer. You mentioned a sister, can she help? There are resources out there. What would you do if this was an alcohol issue?
I wish you the best of luck, but it sounds like you know what you should do.

I'm not that familiar with smoking pot. I have been around people who did. I know it mellows you out. I don't know if it makes you irritable. Is he mixing something else with it? A combination of two drugs can lead to an explosive behavior.

You NEED to get out of this relationship. He is a bad influence on your little one. A child should not be brought up in a hostile environment. There are alot of programs out there, to help single moms.

Take care and Good Luck.

Many people recover financially. Money shouldn't make the decisions for your family. What is right for your family is, no matter what the consequences. I know it's hard to hear or believe. But, people survive being poor, losing a house, filing bankruptcy. Many people recover better than they were before. My grandparents lost everything in the depression, everything. They survived and raised very happy children living their life in good conscience. My in-laws had to file bankruptcy - now they are in good shape.

Document his behavior. Make sure the law is on your side to protect your son from this bad influence. If you separate from him, and he gets UNsupervised visits/custody, then you don't know what he's doing when you're not around.

You're in a tight spot. But, with the law on your side, and personal resolve, you can make a good life for your son (which has very little to do with money) and build character in him. The father doesn't sound like someone I would want as a neighbor, much less a husband or parent.

Get some legal advice. Protect yourself and your son. It doesn't sound like he wants to change, and you can't change him. If you still want him in your life, require counselling or something for a long period of time. He probably won't stick around for that. If he does, then it may be worth a try. I pray God gives you wisdom beyond your experience and that you will make right decisions for your future!

Okay, it's time for an ultimatum. You and your kid deserve better. Is he truely willing to lose you and the baby over a weed? If he is willing to lose you over that.....well, then he truely is an immature loser!

Good luck,
D
