My son got his one year shots on Tuesday morning, he was fine the next day but on Thursday morning he woke up with a fever. The worst part is we went out of town the day after his shots and now he still has a fever around 100.3-101.7, he is not himself and doesnt feel well but I have been told that this is normal from some kids after 1 year shots(mmr/chicken pox). I have been giving him motrin but it's not bringing it down too much. I am still out of town and very worried.
Any of your kids get a fever that lasted this long with the 1 year shots?

THis is not normal! I would google how to reverse the reactions to shots. You can google Dr. Tenpenny. She is a activist for vaccine safety. I think probiotics and other things that boost the immune system are things you can do to lessen the effects of the vaccine.
The fever is pretty normal because his immune system is doing what it should (attacking the dead bacteria/virus, creating antibodies, cataloguing the blueprint for the antibodies, and flushing his system). I know whenever I get a booster and get sick that I REALLY needed that booster (if we already have the antibody stored, then we get no response at all to the vaccine). Because his immune system is working, he's feeling sick, but the *good* news is that (because the it's like a mild cold/flu instead of 3 deadly and 1 highly irritating illnesses which come with HIGH fevers -104+ in addition to the rest of the symptoms : difficulty breathing, swelling, organ damage, etc.)
Tylenol &/or Ibuprofen (for achiness and fever) + a high fat diet (the immune system is almost entirely made of fat with a little protein thrown in for structure) + plenty of rest and some snuggles will take care o' most of the problems)
This is a normal reaction to the vaccines. The fever is not too high either, so that is good. Keep him hydrated and if the fever spikes up (>102), take him to urgent care. Page your pediatrician too if you're really worried. This is normal though.
When I took my daughter for her shots I would always give her Tylenol right before she would get them. Then continue giving it to her every four hours after getting her shots. This really helped her. I would also bring her home right after and bath her in warm water and let the injection area soak. That helped so the spot wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't go anywhere, and let her rest. Usually trying to schedule her appointsments on Fridays helped to let her rest the rest of the weekend. With him not being at home resting, could be the reason he isn't getting rid of the fever. He needs lots of rest and fluids. Hopefully your little guys feels better.
It's common for kids to get fevers with immunizations, but if you still can't break his fever by the morning, call your peditrician for their recommendations. Good luck!
There is this really great product on the market that I think is called "Kool Gels". You can get it at Walgreens. What it is is this self-adhesive pad that you can put on your son's forehead, under arm and such, that will help bring down his temperature without giving him additional medication. Don't give your son Tylenol since the acetomenphin (sp?) in Tylenol reduces a person's glutithion level. Glutithion is responsible for your body's natural detoxification process and you want your son's body to release all of the elements of the vaccine that he no longer needs. Fevers are a natural after-effect of a vaccine. Some kids are okay with receiving vaccines; others are not. Just keep an eye on your son and hopefully the fever will pass in no time at all.

I would be VERY careful, as even if this is a reaction that is considered the NORM, it's still not NORMAL.

This is his first MMRV vaccine, so if/when you do his 2nd, make sure he's in complete health, so his immune system can handle it.

My son is getting his one year shot in 2 weeks but my friend's daughter took hers last week and she had a fever of 103 for 4 days. She took her back to her ped and he said it's normal. He also told her that the other shot her daughter took will probably show reactions in about a week.
My little guy had a fever for almost a week after his 1 yr. He also ended up having a febrile seizure from the rapid rise of the fever. We also experienced fevers that didn't start for several days after the shots and were told that they were still an effect of the shots. Hang in there!
Usually the doctor will tell you that they may run a fever afterwards. That is not uncommon. I believe you can rotate Tylenol and Motrin. And the luke warm baths are always good.
Keep an eye on him, don't be too active with him. Give him lots of fluids. My son got the mmr/chicken pox & maybe another at 15mo. He got a very high fever a few days later, we went to the ER. ER doc. said the shot could very well have caused it. MMR reactions can take 7-10 days (my daughter just got the mmr shot at 21 months (I waited a few extra months b/c of my son's reaction). She got a minor fever for 2 days & was fine. Just keep an eye on him until you're past the 2 week mark. He will be fine, just don't do too much sight-seeing with him.
