Ever Try Hyland's??

I asked my pediatrician about Hyland's Teething Tablets. He wanted to see the ingredient list. After I faxed it to him he called me back and said the he did not recommend using them. For the life of me I can't remember why...but in the 3 years I've known him and the million questions I've asked him, this was the only time he told me not to do something that I was doing.

I tried hylands teething tablets twice (one at full dose for my weight, once at half). Made me high as a flippin' kite. GREAT visual and auditory hallucinations, general euphoria, some concerning numbness/paralysis in my swallowing (making it occasionally difficult to breathe, but the euphoria kept that from being too concerning), some *very* disturbing arrhythmia for about 30 minutes (during the same time I had difficulty swallowing... the paralysis kept spreading down my throat into my chest, so it was probably fear based, but the irregular heartbeat tapered off as the numbness did, and I had quite a difficult time actually being afraid because of the euphoria).

Fortunately the hallucinations came on slowly enough I was able to arrange for emergency babysitting for my son. When I tried them again at half strength, I made sure that I had babysitting lined up. WORD TO THE WISE... do that before testing their effects on yourself. Same but milder effect on a half dose.

I'm REALLY glad that the FDA is finally looking into these buggers. During my "wild" years, back when god was a boy, I used street drugs that had less effect. I also am somewhat curious as to what if any correlation there is between hylands and SIDS. The difficulty swallowing/breathing that occured for about 30 minutes was seriously troubling. I had to time my inhales to miss my drooling. And a few times I got it wrong... but couldn't cough because of the spreading paralysis. But since teething usually starts off after the highest danger period for sids... I have no idea if there would be any correlation. Just something I wonder about.

It's no wonder they "work" so well, however. Even with all the scariness going on, I was happy as could be. And the hallucinations were quite entertaining. Dancing lights, color clouds, halos, trailers. I'm surprised teens don't use them more than they already do.

After testing the effects on myself, I threw them in the trash and wouldn't let my son have any. If I'm lucky he'll avoid "wild" years entirely. While he may have to occasionally have strong meds for surgery or broken bones, tylenol is good enough for cutting teeth!

Please do not use Hylands, they are not regulated by the FDA and the teething tablets were recently recalled for having too much of a poisonous ingredient!
I am the most natural, non toxic mom. All his toys are non-toxic, his food organic, etc, but I give him the generic tylenol if he needs it. If your child has a cold or cough just lay off the dairy and give them lots of soup and sleep...

Hylands Teething Tablets were recently recalled by the FDA. They was a herb that they were using in it that can be potential fatal in large amounts and several children over the years had been poisoned by it. The FDA said they did not have a proper way of being assured of the amount of the herb in each tablet. (My wording may not be exactly correct, but you can look of the recall of them on the web and find more information).

I used them with my last two kids and loved them. I wondered if the kids that where poisoned by it had been given a large amount of them instead of the recommended does?????

I love the Hyland's products. I use them often. We are currently using the the teething tablets (and the recall was stupid and ignorant bullying by the FDA buy I digress) and the work so, so well.

I LOVED the teething tablets. I haven't tried anything else though. The tablets were recalled because they weren't FDA approved, so uneven distribution of ingredients was a possibility. (People see 'belladonna' on the label, and assume it's poison... even though when prepared and used homeopathically it is perfectly safe... but they freaked out about the idea of having too much in one pill) BUT even if each pill wasn't exactly the same, it would take a baby ingesting about 3 bottles worth of pills in order to get sick off them. I still used the tablets I had purchased before the recall with no problems at all... until I ran out.

I myself use Hyland's "Calms Forte" for adults... for stress/sleep/relaxing. I like it. It helps.

I have used the kids cough n' cold syrup. For my kids. It was good. Helped.

The teething tablets...I think were having issues... don't know why.

I used the teething tablets and they worked great, sorry to hear they're having problems with the FDA. My daughter is now 6 and I just recently tried the Hyland's Cough & Mucus congestion. It is milder than regular kids' medicine, but I've found it works pretty good on a cough at bedtime if I also put Vicks vapor rub on her chest and the bottom of her feet. She prefers the Baby Vicks that has a milder scent than regular.

The teething tablets were on a recall so if you ever buy any, double check that it isn't the batch that was. I like the teething gel. I even use it after a check up. It isn't like oragel and numbs things, but soothes the gums with chamomile and other natural soothers.

Yes, that is the only cold medicine I will use for myself or my kids. It's all homeopathic and natural. It works great too!! I did use the teething tablets once on my daughter when she was younger (she is almost 6 now) and didn't like them because it made her WIDE awake all night long. But, the cold medicine is great!

I used teething tablets but dont remeber the brand I used. if they were highlands they worked great. I got them at walmart

My only experience was with the teething tablets. LOVED them for my kids! My daughter got into the diaper bag one day (when she was two) and ate a whole bottle! Rushed her to emergency and they monitored her for HOURS! Not a thing happened to her (Praise God!). So---maybe they don't make them the same way---that was 15 years ago. Maybe you can try a humidifier for the stuffiness instead of meds. ??
