Early Ultrasound and "Blood Spots"

Yesterday I had an early ultrasound (vaginal). I am 8 weeks, 5 days. and the fetus measured 8 weeks 4 days and had a strong heartbeat so I take that as a good sign. The ultrasound doc did point out, however, 2 "blood spots" and asked me if I had had any spotting (I haven't). The doc later said this was common in first trimester and may be absorbed back into my body or may have some spotting. She said they consider it possible 'implantation' bleeding. I asked if it was a chance for miscarriage, and she said all pregnancies have a chance for miscarriage, espically in first trimester.

I had 2 miscarriages last year so I am extra anxious. I know there is nothing I can do about it at this point, I guess I am just wondering if anyone has ever seen this in one of their ultrasounds and everything turned out ok.

thanks!

What can I do next?

I agree, try not to worry. There is a reason for everything.......good and bad, even though we may not know the reason. If you miscarried before, there may have been something wrong with the baby.....so, just try to not think about it............

You are going to be fine. Take care, and Congratulations on the pregnancy.

I had this with both of my pregnancies. With my son, I was sent to the emergency room (my ob was out of town) because I had clots of blood...it was very scary. I was labeled "threatened miscarriage" and sent home. When my doc came back in town they drew blood and said my numbers looked good. The nurses seemed surprised. They did several ultrasounds and could see blood pooling in my uterus, but could not determine the cause. I had bleeding well into my second trimester. It was very disconcerting to say the least. I prayed and cursed every time I went to the bathroom. My doc put me on pelvic rest and kept a close eye on me. Everything went fine. I delivered an almost 9 lb. perfectly healthy baby boy. With my daughter the bleeding was not as severe and ended before my second trimester. Again they could see blood pooling in my uterus, but could not find the cause. My daughter was a healthy 8.5 lb bundle of joy. I won't tell you not to worry...because you will. But hopefully these posts will give you some piece of mind. Congrats and good luck.

I did not have it on my ultrasound. However, I has significant spotting during the first trimester with my son. I also had a large amount of blood at 13 weeks -- as in we had to throw away my clothes and recover the chair I was sitting in, that is how much. He is five years old, and has his issues, but we all maded it.

Take it easy, drink lots of water, and pray. There is nothing in life that is so important it cannot wait a few weeks while you take care of this baby.

Best of Luck!

Following a miscarriage, we did IUI to get pregnant. I had this too and it was very scary. My reproductive endocrinologist said not to worry. She did recommend that I put my feet up during lunch. I worked in the dental field so I just laid in the chair over lunch. I would say if you have the opportunity to rest a litte during the day do it. Hope everything goes well.

I had this happen with one of my pregnancies and everything turned out just fine. Don't worry too much, your doc is right, this is not that unusual and I am sure all will turn out fine. I have had miscarriages too and like you said there is nothing you can do about it so just sit back and enjoy this new pregnancy and stay calm. Babies need a warm, calm environment and can sense when you are worked up. Just let it be.

Good luck to you, and congrats!

yes I had this also. I started spotting at 8 wks and with an ultrasound they found blood spots. They later absorbed and I am now 25 weeks along with a very healthy baby=) . I had also just suffered a miscarriage a few months before so I was extra concerned, but the doc assured me that it would be absorbed and the bleeding stopped=) Good luck
