I am trying to find a program for my 28th month old in the Fall that is more than just a typical MDO or playtime group session (2 days a week)....I would like to know if any of you know of any programs that would be more focused on faciliating language but also centered around a play opportunity as well. My son is currently in speech therapy, so I would like to find such a program to supplement his therapy so he has more interaction with children (for socialization) - with the opportunity to enhance his speech and language development. We were wait-listed for a program offered by Callier (SMILE) and just found out that there are not enough spaces for us this semester, so I am looking for something for the Fall semester. Thanks for your feedback, and time.

Hi, I am not sure where you are located. I know Plano has several early child development centers that are for children with developmental delays or disabilities. You can go out to the PISD website.

If you are not in Plano, I am sure you town has one too.

K.,

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you guys are doing okay.

I just wanted to let you know that I currently run an In-home preschool. We have been open for almost 3 years. We offer full-time and part-time spots. I have two teachers, and the classes are split by ages. We enroll ages 18 mos. to 5 years. Our curriculum is based on Frisco ISD. I can give you some referrals to parents that are very impressed with our program.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Please call us if you have any questions.

Hi K.,
My son spent almost 10 years in private speech therapy. We also have done OT, sensory integration and the list goes on... The Shelton School and Evaluation Center has a great early childhood program. He is one of their original EC students and will be a senior in high school at Shelton in the fall. My daughter also went through the early childhood program because of the sibling connection/ genetic component. She has NO speech issues-- other than being extremely chatty. Here's a yucky little statistic ... more than 90% of children with significant early childhood speech/language issues have learning differences that will be diagnosable as they progress through the early elementary grades. Early, appropriate intervention is the key to remediation and success in school and ,by extension, life. Betty Glasheen(Mamma G) is the head of the lower school. Her phone # is ###-###-####. You will need to make an appointment and take a tour. Also, they will want to see all your evals and pertinent paperwork. they will also want to see your child and spend time with him. It is a wonderful place to be both a student and a parent. The kids ADORE her and the school. Betty will give you a straight answer regarding the fit between your child and the school. It's a place that is committed to nurturing a child to be successful in school. If they don't think they are the right school, they will tell you. Also, they will try to steer you to a possible place, if you ask and they have a legitimate answer. We have loved every year there and are grateful to pay tuition. Now we are looking at colleges knowing that our son has as good a chance at being successful as any other kid in the country.
If you have any more questions, I would be glad to answer them. This stuff is not fun. Your son is blessed to have such proactive parents. Hope this is helpful

Did you try Calliers preverbal program run by Jan Lougay?? Try very hard to get in there. Its a great program. Meantime I would do private speech. Integrative Pediatric Therapy has wonderful speech paths there. They have an office in Dallas and Plano. You are a good mommy not waiting. Its important to tackle it EARLY!!!
