Double Stroller Recommendation for Infant & Toddler

Which double stroller would you recommend for a 7 month old (sitting up) and a 2 year old? I don't need one that is compatible for the infant car seat since the little one will be outgrowing the seat soon.
How long did you use a double stroller until your older child no longer would use it?
Which ones would fit in a Subaru car (wagon)? Would you recommend side by side or front/back style & why? I appreciate your tips. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your responses. My sister in law found a very gently used Baby Trend Sit n Stand for $10 today at a garage sale. I'm not sure they 2 year old is quite ready for the bench seat, but I think it will be great next year. I might keep looking for something else to use for this year. Thank you again for your suggestions!

I have a 1 and 2 year old and I only use my BOB Duallie. It is fantastic and you can use it for anything. (Jogging, walking, all terrain, malls...)

I have a Joovy Caboose (sit n stand). What I don't like about it is that I can't strap my older one in. I like the flexibility it gives us, but if you want to be able to strap the older one in, perhaps a side by side might work better. If I were to get a side by side I'd get a City Mini because it's so versatile as an all-terrain but not huge like most all-terrains.

Ok...I have a 4yr old and an 8mo. old and both my sons {LOVE} One step ahead sit and stand. We tried MANY out and this one was great for the walker and the little one :) The seat for my older son gives him great room and was beautiful for our daily walks before school started back up ;)
Folds down really nicely - one handed!!!

Plus the only one we found with cup holders.

Hope this helps!

I would not get a sit-n-stand yet. They are not comfortable for long periods, and are not good with storage space. And, with a 2 year old, you will need him buckled for a long time. I would look into a side by side, like the Combi that was suggested. I have 5 children, and have had at least that many double strollers. I swore for years that I did not want a side by side, so I had several graco doubles, as well as the joovy sit-n-stand. I ended up using a friends side by side for something, and I LOVED IT! It is so light weight, easy to fold up and put in any car, and still fits through the doorway. I ended up buying a used one, and have switched to only using that one! I cant say enough good about a nice side by side. Make sure both seats recline, you have separate shades. and cup holders for everyone. Good luck finding the perfect stroller..it is almost as hard as finding a good pair of jeans!! ~A.~

We love our sit and stand. My son is 4 and my daughter is 1 and we use it all the time. Both are happy and comfortable. We have been using it since my daughter was first born. I found mine on craigslist for a very reasonable price.

Hey A.,

I have a 4 month old and a 4 year old... I have what you call a sit n stand... It has a bench like seat on the back of the stroller for the toddler to sit and get buckled in or to stand and it has a beltand bar for them to hold on to... You can set the infant seat for a carrier or just for a infant going into a toddler seat for them it has parent trays and a kids try for there snacks and juice... I found mine on roll back at walmart.com for 94.00$ Just go to walmart.com and type in the search box sit n stand and you can see what they look like... I love mine and its alot easier especially when were in the mall, zoo ect... Hope this was help ful

We have a 10 month old and a 2 and a half year old and had the exact same question after our baby was born. We opted for a sit n stand Joovy Ultralight Caboose because it was the narrowest (best for fitting through doorways) and shortest in length (good for steering and fitting in the trunk of our Prius), and because we thought our toddler would prefer to face front and stand most of the time, with the option to jump off and walk or to sit in the little jump seat facing backwards when tired.

The other in-line stroller we considered was the Phil & Ted. Looks like a great stroller, and we would have picked it if we thought we needed the jogging stroller type wheels.

For side-by-side strollers, we heard great things about the City Mini - it rolls better and is slightly smaller and lighter than the other side-by-sides.

Do test / measure the double stroller you're thinking of folded up with regards to your trunk. It sure seems like many of them will only fit in a minivan! The Joovy we ended up with will fit, but only if we remove the top canopy first. Still, we're very happy with it.

Hope this helps!

My two are 16 months apart and when I was out looking for one I wanted a side by side. If I remember correclty the sit and stand maks your oldes face you when they are sitting down. I think the reason we didn't buy it was becuase my daughter didn't want to face me when riding. We opted for the Combi Twin Savvy XL. I loved it for several reasons. It tri-folded (very easy to store), very light weight, had two cup holder (a must for 2 year old) and it was narrown enough to fit through any door. I used it for probalby around a year. Once my daughter turned 2 1/2 she wanted to start walking and I went back to using my Peg (which I love). They are now almost 3 and 4 I can't get them to sit in a stroller anymore unless we are at the Zoo.
