Help- No Double Stroller Fits in Car!!

We just went today and tried all the tandem double strollers at Babies R Us and nothing fit in our Camry- so depressing! We will have a 21 month old and newborn in a few months and need to find something for them. I want a stroller with two seats (my toddler loves to run- usually away from me), can't be an umbrella stroller, and needs to fit our Graco infant carseat in it. I didn't want a side-by-side, but if I have to...... Is it too much to ask to find something that fits the bill and also our Camry?

I also own a Camry and had the same problem. We ended up going the garage sale/resale shop route. I found one last year that not only fit in the car, but also fit my car seat. Good luck and keep trying! I think the newer models are just too big!

Hi J.,
I'm a stroller fanatic....that is to say I have 2 kids and 5 strollers. CRAZY!!! When my second son was born I had an 18 month old. The main stroller I used was the Bob double because there was a car seat adapter. I wish I had known about the Joovy Caboose...which I now have. It has an attachment that will work in the front for a car seat and the back is a jump seat with a buckle. My boys are now 14 months and 2 1/2...well almost 3 and it's perfect!!! I still use my Bob..just because I LOVE that one so much for walks around the neighborhood. But the Joovy fits in my car just fine. BTW...if you are interested, I'm selling my double Maclaren Twin Triumph. I really liked that one too...it's just now to small for my oldest son. I think we used it maybe 30 times. You can email me @____@____.com if you are or anyone else is interested. GOOD LUCK!

I bought a side by side stroller, because everyone I know that has a tandem hates it! I have the double bob and love it! It's a standard/regulated width, just like a wheel chair so it gets through any doorway. It's a lot easier to push through a door than a tandem. Think about how hard it is to hold a door open and push a stroller through at the same time, with a tandem you have to give it the biggest push ever to get the length through. Maybe with that in mind you will be less disappointed now.

Hi J.,
Not sure if you've tried this, but how about a Sit 'N Stand (by Baby Trend)? I have a 3 1/2 year old and an 8 month old. At times when I need them both in a stroller, this works well. Although the seat for the older child is a simple platform, the deluxe model has more of a "real seat" It does accomodate a Graco infant car seat. And it fits in the trunk just fine. I have a Honda Accord, I know the trunk is around the same size as a Camry.

I am surprised no one else has mentioned this yet about your question, but have you looked at the Phil & Teds? It is a tandem stroller but easily converts to a single. We have one and love it and it fits nicely into our little VW Jetta. (Dont get me wrong, it is not "compact", but fits fine in the trunk with enough space for everything else we need on vacation, for example). It is a bit pricey at $400 -- which I thought was outrageous before I started looking at strollers -- but I have to tell you it is worth every single penny given how flexible it is for two kids or one.

We bought a Contours options tandem stroller. It fit in our corolla, granted not alot of extra space, but it fit. It has a universal car seat attachment which we just tried with our car seat (I don't remember what brand our is-it's almost 4 years old), and it worked perfectly. The only 2 bad things are 1) it is heavy, but most double strollers with 2 full seats will be and 2) You have to take the front seat off to fold it. It is easy to do, but can be annoying. I do like how it fit in our car and that you could turn the seats all kinds of ways ( facing you, facing eachother, facing out..)
We found ours at burlington coat factory.

I have two little ones that are 18 months apart and I got a stroller by the company Phil and Teds. It is great and easy to fit in cars. It is very light too. The only downside is there is not a lot of storage. It is also made for infants. I bought it when we lived in KC but I am sure you could find it online. We got the sport edition. Good luck!

Try the Phil & Ted's stroller. There are 4 different models, although, I'm unsure about the Graco infant car seat. It's not a side by side, but an inline stroller. What is awesome about it, is that it can be used a single stroller, a double toddler stroller, or a toddler/infant stroller and it is about the size of a jogging stroller. The maneuverability is AWESOME!!!

The different models range in price from $300 - $700 depending on features available.

Friends who have the sit and stand plus LOVE it, so I'll agree with that recommendation.

Someone said a 21 month old will grow out of a stroller soon. That depends on your 21 month old. My 7 year old would still like to be pushed around once in a while (we don't do it). My almost 4 year old loves to go in a stroller and you never know when they'll fall asleep and you'll want to put them down. Expect a few more years of stroller from your oldest.

I love my Maclaren double, but it is a side by side and does not fit a carseat. It is an umbrella stroller and folds down very compact, FYI.

Good luck.

I love my combi twin savvy. The graco carseat isn't suppose to go with it, but if you face it forward it does. It doesn't snap, but has been fine! It is so light and folds down so small. It is side by side, but works so well. Both my sisters have it and really like it. We have 8 kids between the 3 of us:) One of the side by side combis also has a combi carseat that snaps in it.

P.S. Just read a lot of people recommending the sit and stand. I would bring your little one to babies r us and see if they like it. Mine did not. She was 28 months when the new baby came, but wanted to sit in the regular stroller part.

She is 5 now and still can sit in the combi. In fact, I've squeezed all three (5, 3, 18 months) in the stroller at times. (Lay the seat down and the two big kids can squeeze in one behind the other, and the baby gets buckled in his own seat.) I just think it's the best for the price. And couldn't imagine having my 21 month old in a sit and stand with the new baby. Let's face it, some times kids throw a fit in public. At those times it is good to have the option of buckling a fighting toddler in and leaving. I don't know if you can contain them very easily in the sit and stands.

I love the Joovy Caboose sit-n-stand stroller. My kids are 18 months apart (2 1/2 and 4 years old). Not lightweight, but it does fold up smaller than most double strollers. Try craigslist as they are a bit pricey to purchase new.

Hi J.,

I had the Graco Duoglider with my twins a few years ago as well as a side by side Instep jogging stroller. They both fit into my Camry trunk. I did have to take the front wheel off the jogging stroller though. Perhaps newer Camrys have smaller trunks. Ours was a 1999. Good luck!

Your 21 month old may outgrow a double stroller soon anyway. Try a sit and stand instead. Good luck!

Hi,

Graco did make a double stroller that was back to back instead of tandem. You may want to check to see if they still do. My kids are 8 now, so I'm not sure if they do anymore. I have a Ford Escort sport coupe and it fit in the trunk of that. You may want to check on EBAY.
Good luck

We have a Graco back to back stroller (bought it about 2 years ago)that fits in the trunk of my Camry. I also have a side by side Graco and Combi stroller that fits in the trunk. The side by side strollers by Combi fit 1 car seat and 1 older child. You may want to check those out. Combi's are smaller and light weight.

you can get a back pack carrier for the toddler or I would sit my toddler on the part you push where you can put your drinks and snacks and hold her thighs as I pushed. That worked really well. I never had a double and it really worked out just fine. I taught my older daughter to hold the stroller or she sat on the snack tray.

Hi, J..

At one time, there were clips you could buy to clip two umbrella strollers side by side. I know I bought them at Babies R Us - it was probably 6 or so years ago, but it's definitely a cheaper way to go. You can just clip and unclip as needed. Good luck.

The Joovy Sit & Stand is a bit more compact than most doubles. It does fit carseats in the front and there is a buckle in the back for the 2nd child.

We had the same problem when I had my 2nd and decided to get a minivan. I got a double stroller, but a year later, I was ready for the sit & stand, so wish I would have gone with it to begin with!

I would see if you can try the Baby Trend Sit 'n' Stand Plus. My husband and I looked at them recently and they seem to fold up more compactly than some. Also, the sit and stand has been recommended to me over more conventional double strollers. Congrats on your growing family :O)

You may well have to suck it up and get the dreaded
"MINI-VAN". I resisted until my son was almost 7....now I don't know what I would do with a "regular" car...so much more space for hauling and "stuff" plus EVERYTHING is an easy in and out. Did I mention we took the middle seat out almost immediately and it has been back in exactly twice in a year..LOVE THE SPACE!!! Remember you will need space for other "stuff" too, not just the stroller. A van may be your best option

This probably won't fit either, but just in case, the Baby Trend sit and stand stroller can be purchased with an optional 2nd seat which can later be removed to make it a sit and stand. The Graco car seat can pop on the front seat. Target might sell this; I think I saw it there with the extra seat option, but I think it's cheaper from Amazon. Check to see if they'll let you try it out at Target though.

I have a sit and stand and it fits my Graco car seat on the front. It folds to about the size of my regular Graco stroller and my mom can fit it into the trunk of her car. It has on the back where they can stand or sit and you can buckle them in. My son loves the fact that he can sit or stand when he wants.

I have a Baby Jogger City Mini double and it fits great in my trunk. It is light weight and I actually have extra space once it is in there. I have a sedan and it fits perfectly. I have also had a Maclaren double and borrowed a sit and stand and the Baby Jogger fits by far the best and allows for extra space. I love the stroller for our needs and it has been great.
