Dish Network v Direct TV

Grrr I hate these companies with a passion, but my husband insists on having TV. He says the kids will miss the cartoon's. I say let them watch movies. Any how,

We currently have the Dish 200 package and are paying $77.41, we are also on an extremly tight budget so I am trying to figure out a way to decrease this amount we are paying. I called and said I was going to Direct TV and they acted like they didn't care about my business. We have had them for 5 or 6 years and that is how we are treated. O and to top it off I was told that we are paying a $5 monthly fee that they don't even charge any more.

What do you have and how much do you pay for your tv service?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm pretty sure I could since most shows are now on the internew. Hubby thinks the kids (really him) has to have the extra stations.

We have an antenna for our tv and get the channels we can get over the air. It is a real hit or miss most days but we don't have that cable bill and that money goes towards savings or entertainment or some other great thing or even some other bill.

We don't watch much tv anyway. Does your husband know the kinds of cartoons out there? Buying them or even getting NetFlicks has got to be a better and more cost effective option over either Direct of Dish. Just my 2 cents on this matter. FYI we have teenages and it seems to work for them too.

Both are doing exceptionally well in school. They spend more time studying and reading.

we had just the opposite happen. we had directv and switched to dish. directv could care less until AFTER we had switched and then boy they poured it on. i just frankly told the girl that had they put this effort in BEFORE we switched we would have stayed but it was a done deal and too late. i dont think either of the companies really care...what large company does these days? we are all just expendable customers..there are lots waiting to take our place so who cares!

We also had Dish Network for many years and they could have cared less we were switching. All the "deals" are for new customers, nothing to keep existing ones. We wanted more capacity for DVR (my bedroom TV did not have it, and dd's TV we wanted it back on her's)..and we upgraded 2 TV's to HD...the only way to get what we wanted (this is where we spend entertainment dollars)..was to switch and I did NOT want to.

We now have Direct TV and I HATE it. We have had so so so many equipment problems..we still are. We have had them for about 5 mos now...we have alot more rain fade/snow fade with them as well. When our contract is up, we will go back to Dish Network. In all the years we had them, we had no issues...just the fact they wouldn't upgrade our equipment without hefty fees.

we have DirectTV. It comes with our rent, so I think my landlord pays about the same as you. $75 or so.

But when we leave this rental, I think we're going back to bunny ears. Free, and when there are only 5 channels to choose from, we can turn the tv off and have more family time.

btw - we had both Dish Network and DirectTV. I prefer DirectTV the way their DVR programs work.

We've had Dish Network and Cox Cable and Direct TV is by far better than any of them. They are reasonably priced too. The only down side is that you have to sign a contract but they are worth it. We've never had the problems like we did with the others and we get a lot more for the money. Good luck!

I hate cable companies, all of them. I do have DirecTV but it is so expensive and I switched from DishNetwork under the same exact circumstances as Wendy here. I'm sure I could live without cable, but I don't want to. lol.

We had the same package you're talking about with Dish Network and recently switched to Direct TV. We signed up for a comporable plan. I wanted to make sure we had DVR. We're paying about 40 a month.

I would agree, Dish Network didn't seem to care at all that they might lose our business, until the day I called to cancel. Their representative kept trying to talk me out of it. After about 10 minutes (or so) of being polite, I had to be very blunt and tell him that my decision was made.

We're happy.
