Dinner Ideas for Hubby with Ulcer?

Looks like the pain hubby has had for a few years on & off turned out to be a developing ulcer. Bad enough to hurt, but not showing up on other tests/symptoms till now. He got some stomach bug that kicked it into high gear, and the medicine worked.

I am going to google for more ideas, but wanted to ask, if you've had this issue or your spouse has, what foods were easiest on the stomach, easy to cook, and gave some variety so as not to be boring?

Thanks!

Check with his doctor but once the ulcer heals, he may not need to modify his diet. Ulcers are caused by bacteria, not food or acid. My dad had abdominal bleeding due to a post-op medication burning a hole into his digestive tract. It had to be surgically repaired and he thought he would have to modify his diet after and his doctor said that as with ulcers, once an opening heals, it heals. As long as the medication killed that bacteria and he's symptom free, he should be able to eat a regular variety of food.

While my dad was healing from his surgery, he did avoid acidic foods like tomatoes and citrus....ate cereal, soup, sandwiches, my mom's rather bland cooking, meat and potatoes, etc.

I would ask his doctor for suggestions as to what foods he should and shouldn't have.

I was scoped (amazing photos) from both ends and my hemoglobin was so low I needed two blood transfusions. I too waited way o long. My meals were Nexium with a side of Nexium!

Hope he feels better soon.

I would ask the doctor who gave him the diagnosis for a referral to a nutritionist.

I don't have any experience with ulcers, however, common sense would dictate the diet should be acid free: no tomatoes, citrus, etc. things that will only add to the acid in the stomach.

I wish I could be of better help!!

When I had ulcers things like Onions tore me up. So much that I'd be rolling in the floor trying to push the gas out. Tomato things irritated my mom. I never tasted spaghetti growing up. My mom couldn't eat it. So she never fixed it. One evening a few months after she died I was making spaghetti and I started crying. Not over her dying but over the fact that I hadn't ever been able to taste spaghetti as a child....my hubby held me for about an hour as I thought about all the foods I never got to eat or even try before I left home.

I think that the meds should help a LOT> Tagamet was the med I took every day. Then Levsin was a miracle to me. I don't know how it worked but when I was in pain and rolling on the floor crying I could take 1 pill and I'd feel 100% better in minutes. Then I could eat anything I wanted for the rest of the day.

I think you can look online and get a list of foods that irritate the lining of the stomach and esophagus. Those are specific areas that need to be watched until he's better.
