We have a very large family room and I would like to organize my sons toys. I was originally looking for a wood unit with baskets, but then I was thinking that it would also be great to have a little desk area for him. I have looked and really can not find anything that I said ahhh, thats perfect. Please help!

What can I do next?

We had (still have!) a little wooden table & chairs like this O. from Ikea:

It's been great as a "desk", an art table, play doh table, etc.

My kids had a little table with two chairs. This is even better than a desk because there's an extra seat for a friend! Ikea is GREAT for stuff like this.

I can't remember where, but I do know they make desks with the baskets on the sides, instead of drawers. Maybe Pottery Barn Kids? Sounds like a win-win in your situation ;)

what worked for me, at that age was a big, wood, coffee table from IKEA, which is very low and I got two good chairs ( from a fancy store), the big table gave them the option of spreading big paper and other art work material and when they spilled paint or glue it did not bother me at all. Happy shopping!

If you really want a desk, and don't want to spend a lot, try Craigslist. You can get a cheap wooden desk and paint of stain it.
