First of all let me say my daughter is not the rambuncious type. So far this year she has sprained her ankle (had crutches) and broke her arm. She has a huge cast up to her shoulder and will get a short one in 2 weeks but still cant get it wet. She is really getting down in the dumps because swimming is what we do in the summer. She thinks she is the only one this has happened to. I told her a lot of people do this and I would love some stories to tell her. Also some different activities to do with her because we are running out of them! Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

At the sprinkler park we have here the other day, I saw a little boy playing in the water with a cast on. He had this unusual bag over it that was keeping it very dry. I dont know much about it, so this is all the info I can give you about it, but maybe check a drug store out to see if they know anything about it, or possible even a medical equipment store. If there are community centers nearby, they usually have games and stuff for kids to do too that are indoor and outdoor. I dont know Omaha that well, but here in Sioux Falls, our parks set up games, like board games, at the park for kids to play too. Its called supervised play group and is for kids 7 yrs and older and the parent doesnt need to be there, so check with your local parks and see what they might have. Good Luck to your daughter!

I broke my wrist over the summer as well. In fact, the news just reported that either 85 or 90% of all accidents with children happen during the summer months. I had to go to summer school with my writting hand in a cast. (I was teaching my friend how to ride her bike and I slid on gravel.) She is not the only one...trust me! In fact I myself just fracture a bone in my foot, sprained my ankle, and then recently broke a toe in my other foot. And I am not accident prone! If the pool is small enough she can sit in it. I wore a trash bag over my cast in the shower and sitting by the pool...I couldn't splash around but I could at least enjoy the water.

I had a friend that her mom, just took a cut down trash bag and taped/fastened it around the casted area. then put a glove so it went over the wrist end. then duct taped around that so it wouldn't slip.

you can also get one of those big metal tubs (like you bob for apples in) and she can have her own personal soak tub.
