My daughter loves dancing and dressing up. she puts on my heels and pretends to dance. i bought her a cute little tutu and she loves it. I have been looking for a dance class that will accept her age but i cant find any. She is 17 months old now and ive been looking for dance classes for 20 month olds but i dont see any. All of the classes start at 2yrs :( she is great at following direction and sometimes i think she acts a little older than she is, well except when shes sick shes a total baby. If anyone knows of a class that accepts 20 month olds let me know. I know she would love it. i dont mean ballet either, something on the lines of jazz or tap.

What can I do next?

She's too young for dance. She needs Music and Movement or some kind of exploration class.

Just because a child likes to do something for fun doesn't mean they want to take organized lessons. At her age she should be exploring music and gross motor skills. That's why they don't offer dance classes for kids that young.

And she is CERTAINLY too young for tap or jazz! She should be doing basic clapping moving, spinning, kicking, rolling--that sort of thing.

Try some kind of parent-tot class. She'd probably like any movement, gymnastics or music class. Plus they are wonderful for the two of you to have special time together!

Our YMCA has classes for little ones like that. I would start there first...

Ditto. She is too young for a dance class. Most places also require them to be potty trained. Find a KinderMusik or Music and Movement class for her at this age :). My daughter was the same way, but they don't start until 3 here. Shei s 8 now and in her 6th year of dance.

I actually just did her hair for her ballet and tap classes tonight. Thursday she has hip hop and jazz :).

The best suggestion I could give you would be to actually go to a studio that has classes for 2 year olds. Ask if your child could be a guest in the class and then see if you can move forward from there. Being potty trained will probably be important to the facility. They don't change kids in dance classes.

I found this at the La Jolla Recreation Center
http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/pdf/programgu...

Diaper Daredevils - 13 to 36 months old; Mon. 3:15-4:00 pm
Exploration for you (mom, dad, or caretaker) on gymnastics
equipment. Fun! Group activities with parachutes, Lummi
sticks and songs.

Mommy or Daddy & Me Movement and Music
Class - 15 months to 2 years old; Thurs. 9:45a
Come and spend a magical time with your child while they learn
to move to music and develop their motor and listening skills in a
fun creative environment. This is a parent/child interactive
class. (Caregivers and little siblings welcome.)

It looks like their semesters end early Dec. and the next semester probably starts in January.

You could also look into KinderMusic.

If dance is started before age three the kids get way burned out before kindergarten and it is sad to see them have talent/skills that they have developed to only drop out and never go back to it. Please just find some classes that are fun and promote the two of you spending some time together doing physical activities.
