Culinary Queens: Need a No-beans Tamale Pie Recipe

I've been craving tamale pie and looking for a good recipe. I'm trying to find one that doesn't rely on beans-- beans are not our friend in this house! (Epazote, double-soaking/cooking, and Beano have not been helpful for us.)

So-- if you DO have a bean-free tamale pie recipe, I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks!

Ah, the weather is starting to cool off and everyone's breaking out their comfort food recipes! Can't say I blame you - this is a favorite.

Here's my oldie but goodie:

1 lb. ground beef (or half beef, half turkey)
1 C chopped onion
1 C chopped green pepper

Saute those together.

Stir in:
16 ounces tomato sauce (plain)
12 oz. corn (frozen - no need to defrost)
1/2 C chopped black olives (optional)
1 glove minced garlic
1 T sugar (offsets tomato sauce)
1 tsp salt
2-3 tsp chili powder
dash pepper

Simmer 20-25 minutes.
Add 6 oz shredded sharp American, cheddar or Mexican style cheese (1.5 Cups) Stir until just melted, then turn mixture into 9x9 pan.

While the mixture above is cooking, mix together topping in a sauce pan:
3/4 C yellow cornmeal
1/2 tsp salt
2 C cold water
Cook and stir until thick, then add 1 T butter

Spoon topping over meat mixture. Bake about 40 minutes at 350 until cornmeal is starting to brown. Some of the tomato/meat mix may bubble up - that's okay.

Sorry...I got nothing!

I only craved tamales when I was pregnant...so been YEARS for me! I always paid the price with gas/heartburn too...but just HAD to have them.

Best luck in your quest.

(too late for me!)

I made a tamale pie for a family dinner after my brother's wedding many years ago.. It didn't have beans. I won't look for the recipe since you have one. I don't remember having beans in a tamale pie.
