I am not in the least bit crafy but I want to do more things for my girls. My girls like to have bows in their hair and they are expensive so I am starting to make their hairbows. One of my daughter's favorite hair bows is one of a flower with a clip glued to the back of it. Where do you find these fake flowers for headbands and clips? I have looked at Hobby Lobby and all of the fake flowers they have had stems on them. Also, I have a trunk that I want to turn into a dress up trunk for the girls. It is a plain black trunk. I would like to somehow line it and decorate it to make it more girly for their dress up clothes. How do I do this? What do I line it with? I am completely clueless about the whole thing

What can I do next?

I accidentally found them at Hobby Lobby the other day! We were looking at the jewelry making section and I found them near the tote bags, with a bunch of stuff for babies, like little hats and bibs.

I have been making cute hairbows with instructions from this site: http://girlythingsbows.com/index.html The button flower clippie is my favorite.

You could go to any fabric/craft store and haunt the remnants areas, where they have fabric that was left over. I have found cute things in there to make little purses and bow holders and stuff for my daughter. You could use random bits to line their trunk, I would probably tack them down with thumbtacks, the flat kind. You could also decorate with ribbons and stuff.

You find those flowers at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They are not with the artificial flowers, they are with the tote bags, baby stuff, scrap booking supplies. Just ask someone who works there, they should know.

As far as the trunk goes, you could get some pretty silk fabric, hot glue it around the top and then hot glue ribbon on the edge to hide the edge. Or you could get some pretty paper (in the scrapbook supplies at hobbly lobby or michaels) and arrange it in a pretty pattern covering the entire interior of the box, then shalack it. You can buy shalack at craft stores as well. You could even attatch a mirror to the inside lid, that would be fun.

For my girls' dress up stuff (well some of it, we have an entire cabinet in the playroom deovted to it!) but for the small stuff I got two boxes and covered them with pretty wrapping paper (target and cost plus have the best). They love it!

We have A C Moore here, they have tons of flowers for that (without stems). I agree with Michael's also... they are just a little further from me. Any nice craft store that you have should have them :)

For both projects it would be a big help to get a hot glue gun (I got a little one for under $5 in a craft store) and a sturdy pair of scissors. You can just cut the stems off the fake flowers if you can't find anything else. If they have wire then bend the stem so it is away from the head/hair when you make it into a clip (if you have needle nose pliers they are good for bending any kind of wire).

The trunk depends how involved of a project you want it to be. You could easily paint it inside and/or outside with either spray paint (do it outside) or acrylic paint (it comes in 100's of colors but is slightly more work). I got pretty good results with spray paint and rub on decals from the craft store then a layer of spray on clear glaze. If you want to do more of a collage kind of thing with glued on pictures you can get a thicker paint on glaze (Mod Modge is one brand). If you want it really wild you can hot glue on all kinds of things like ribbons, buttons, beads, flowers, etc.
If you want to line the inside with fabric I would use the hot glue gun or tacky fabric glue (you may need a lot of glue). Or you could just paint it a different color on the inside and maybe glue fabric just on the bottom. Felt or fleece is easy to use because it won't unravel.

You can always go to a bookstore and look through some craft magazines for ideas. You are also welcome to send me a message if you want more details about what I said.

If you have a JoAnn Fabrics or Michaels (we don't have any of the other chain stores here so I'm not aware of how they operate) go in to them and ask one of the sales clerks. They are there for this exact reason and will be more than happy to help you along with your projects :)
