Confirmation Gift - Elk River,MN

My husbands cousin is being confirmed on Saturday and there is a party on Sunday. I have had cousins who have been confirmed, but that was years ago. I have no idea what we're supposed to give her. I know that money is always good, but what else is acceptable for a confirmation gift?

My husband is in the process of changing jobs (2nd time in 1 year) due to the incompetence of his current employer (hiring more employees when all current employees are standing around waiting for work) so money IS an object when it comes to cost of the gift.

What can I do next?

You could get them a book from the christian bookstore, Northwest Books. There are lots of christian books on the market for teens that talk about dating and all kinds of teens issues from a christian perspective. Bet you could get a book and card for under $20.00.

Good Luck!

Get her one of those chicken soup for the teenage soul books. Or a nice christian type book for teens at northwestern book store.

What I have done for a gift this year for a friend of mine who graduated may help you. My son is 4 and loves to write. I had him write out an inspirational bible verse (I used Jeremiah 29..."I have great plans for you declares the Lord...) We framed the verse in a document frame. It was her favorite gift. You could find out if your husband's cousin has a favorite verse and maybe have your daughter do that one for the gift. I bought a nice frame, cost us about $20 for gift bag, card, and all. Good luck!

How religious is this person, and how close are you to the cousin? Religious jewelry is always given (many modern styles are available - rings and necklaces are also approp for guys, depending on style), and lots of people give crosses for the wall, but in my experience it seems the people closest to them give them these gifts. I have given gift certificates to local religious bookstores (like Northwestern) to be used to buy religious music CDs. Again, if you know the person is religious (and not just going thru' the ceremony to please the parents), you might even ask the parents if the kid like certain religious authors for fiction, bands, or would like a book of devotions, etc. But of course, money is always a safe bet.

Good luck,
T.
