Confirmation Gift for a Teen

My son's 16 year old girlfriend is having confirmation this Sunday at her Catholic church, and my son will be attending. (I'd love to go, but she is only allowed 4 people because of space restraints.) I'd like to send a gift from the family with my son, but I don't know what is traditionally given for confirmations since I'm not Catholic. Can anyone give me some ideas?

Thanks a lot!

I am Roman Catholic as well.....I have given a nice rosary style bracelet - cloisonne. They are symbolic as well as decorative jewelry. I would not give money. Find out the saint name she has chosen and you might want to go with the charm bracelet idea with a charm of the saint. I would definately contact the family to find out what others might have said they are giving so not to duplicate. If you can find a nice Catholic bookstore or gift shop, I would go there and they can help with suggestions. I would google for some ideas as there are many Catholic bookstore sites on-line. A girl is a whole lot easier than a boy! A nice religious frame for a special pic of the confirmation is nice too....Good luck.

My daughter received alot of money from her confirmation, but one of the nicest gifts she received was a princess house crystal rosary bead holder with a little money in it! Although we made her put the money away in the bank for future use, she still uses the crystal peice to store her beads and trinkets in.

When I was confirmed years ago, I did get $, but my favorite gift was a silver charm bracelet, which I still have. Just a few charms will do, preferably one with a cross or confirmation charm. She and her family can add to it on future occasions.

I am Roman Catholic and have been to numerous Confirmation ceremonies in my day. The standard gifts are savings bonds, money, a nice necklace with a cross on it or other piece of religious-type jewelry, a nice rosary, or even an engraved jewely box for her. All of these gifts are appropriate and I've done them all. Each one went over very well......especially the money and the jewelry. Big surprise, right? LOL!

I'd find out how devout the family is in their Catholicism. I went through Confirmation, but I wasn't from a devout family. I work with someone who's extremely devout and has statues of St. Mary, St. Theresa on his desk.

Jewelry is common, so she may receive a lot of it. And, it's very personal.

Even if you're not Catholic, but practice some kind of Christianity, the bible is the same. If you have a favorite biblical passage, I'd inscribe it into a nice journal or favorite book.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, a Catholic friend of our family, got be a beautiful sterling silver bracelet with a motivational biblical passage on it that was discreet. It doesn't fit my wrist well, but I do love it.

traditionally, most of my family gave me (and my brother and sister) checks for confirmation. if you want something a little more personal, a nice silver box or even flowers would be appropriate. the only real "gifts" that i recall receiving for any of these events were typically from a very close family member (like my sponsor or my parents) such a gold cross. I am from an Irish/Italian Catholic family in the NE; so traditions may vary across the country.
