Conceiving a Girl...

Hi Moms-
First, any moms who have ill feelings about a couple trying to increase their odds towards either sex...need not respond. I am not looking for opinions on it...just advice on how to do it. We have a wonderful and healthy 3 year old boy. Of course we will be thrilled to bring any child into this world. But...we are hoping for a girl next time around. We plan to start trying at the end of September. I discovered some books out there including Shettles method. I have not purchased any yet. After reading about them, I have become a bit discouraged. It seems I need to figure out when I ovulate which could take quite a few months? Is this correct? So I guess I would like to know...what are some things you moms have done to increase your odds for a girl? And how can I most quickly and accurately figure out when I ovulate??
Thanks for any advice you can give us!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the responses. It really gave us a lot to think about! I did notice some answers completely contradicted other answers...but, with some research, I was able to separate the facts. I truly do appreciate it. We are so excited to start trying. And as some mothers have said, we will definitely be praying hard. God's will is what will happen. Thank you all for the insight! Now only time will tell:)

My husband and me have two girls. Used Clearblue easy ovulation test. When it told us that I was ovulating that is when we had relations every day for the next three to four days. (Not conceived in the missionary position but other way. I guess if we want a boy we'll have to try missionary...sorry if too much info.) Blessed to have two girls, but hoping for a boy if we try again in a few years, but over all blessed to have healthy kids. I hope and pray that your wish comes true for a girl. Good Luck and Baby Wishes.

Hi, Ali:

There is a natural tendency to have a girl than a boy because
a man carries the X and Y chromosone
and a woman carries 2- Y chromosones

Which means a boy will be born 1 in 4 chances of a pregnancy.

Good luck. D.

All the books out there are only out to make a buck off of women's frustration with pregnancy. There is NO hard factual way to conceive a certain sex. Anyone who said something worked for them is just coincidence, period. If some position or time before ovulation works, how do you explain people like myself who have multiples and are different sexes? It's all genetics and happenstance. I had two sons and wanted a little girl so much. I later had triplets with two more boys and one girl. Took me 5 kids to get one girl. My in-laws wanted boys so much, and out of 9 kids only 3 were boys. They got 6 girls, lol.

Just let nature take it's course, this way you won't be disappointed later. Just enjoy the moment and enjoy the child that comes from it. I got a female dog when I had two sons. That helped me, lol. All the testosturone on the house needed some balance.

For the acidic diet...stick to chicken, cranberry (they make cranberry supplements too), crystal light, white rice, lots of dairy...ice cream, parm cheese, yogurt. Stay away from potassium and sodium as much as you can. Those food favor boys. Also stay away from soda and red meat.

My sister in law was into that and she did have a girl. She followed some book and she had a girl. It does have to do with when you ovulate and when you have sex. If you have sex and ovulate afterwards 4-5 days later then you will have a boy, according to what she told me. If you have sex at the time you ovulate, you will have a girl. It does take work to figure it all out. If it is work it to you then take the time to read the book. If you do not want to buy the book, see if they have it at your local library. You may also buy an ovulation predictor kit. Good luck

I can't remember the method I know about, but it isn't Shuttles, although I'm sure all are basically the same since the science is the same! Yes, you do have to figure out when you ovulate. Trying for a boy is much easier, I'm afraid! 3 people I know read the book and each got what they wanted (2 girls 1 boy) so I do think it works. A close friend of mine tried for a year before she got pregnant and it was a girl, but it was a long haul! I'm sure it won't take you quite that long, but it does take some time up front to figure things out...plus her cycle was not consistent at all and that posed a problem. I agree with getting the ovulation tests.

Most if not all of the posts are valid info. My sister used the method to watch the ovulation and did everything according to the book to get a boy and she had a boy after 3 girls. One thing not mentioned in any of the posts was that most girls are conceived in the morning or afternoon, boys mostly in the night or wee hours of morning. I know its true for me and I have 2 of each, 1 girl conceived in the morn abt. 6, another in the afternoon, boys, 1 in the wee hours and 1 around 11pm. Almost every woman I've ever asked about this (for years I took my own survey) has said it was also true for them, the ones that knew when they conceived. ---Also, don't be afraid of having a boy, instead concentrate on a girl and all the loveliness with it, make it dreamy and pretty and call out to the universe/ethers for a girl. -- All of this in prayer of course. The Best To You.

I'd look to the Chinese Gender Predictor. In my office, it was correct for 22 out of 23 people. LOL. Obviously, I don't really think that is true, but it was fun anyway!

Sorry, I realize my post was not helpful but I wanted to say GOOD LUCK!
