Hello Mamas, I would like to hear of anyone's experience with "super colon cleanse" from Trader Joe's. I am considering doing a cleanse in the near future (1st time) so I'm looking for something gentle but effective and the one at TJ's is less pricey than the other ones I've seen...thanks in advance for your input!

Hi M.:

I haven't tried Trader Joe's but I work with a chiropractor and here is his detox diet. He says doing it for a week would be great for you; doing it for a month will change your life. Dr. Berry has been giving this to patients for 25 years.

*Daily Breakfast Master Cleanser MORNING DRINK:

Juice or blend: 2 FRESH lemons, 4 FRESH oranges, a garlic section (you may substitute odorless garlic capsules if you wish), dash of cayenne pepper, 2 tsp. cold pressed oil (almond, grape seed, olive, borage, etc.). OPTION: you may add a small amount of REAL maple syrup to taste.

*Drink 10 8 ounce glasses of water during the day (MINIMUM).

You may have FRUIT or VEGETABLES for lunch or dinner. DO NOT MIX fruits with vegetables. You must have one or the other at each meal.

TIP: Make a large pot of vegetable soup (always include onion, broccoli, parsley and garlic in your soup mix)

MAY NOT HAVE AT ANY TIME:
1. Dairy
2. Potatoes
3. Grains
4. Breads
5. Sugar
6. Starch
7. Meat, fish, chicken, . . . etc.

BROTH DRINK: Drink cold broth drink any time you are hungry (at least 3 cups per day)

Ingredients:
2 cup carrot tops
2 cups celery tops
2 cup beet tops
2 quarts distilled water
3 cups celery stalk
2 cups red skinned potato peeling 1/2 inch thick
1 small zucchini

Chop all vegetables into very fine pieces.

Place them in the water and bring to a boil with the lid on. Lower heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Strain and drink the broth. This broth will keep for 3 days in the refrigerator. It may also be made in larger quantities and frozen.

ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS

CLEANSING HERBS (may be taken in tea or capsule form)

Garlic - blood cleanser, lowers blood fats, natural antibiotic

Red clover blossoms - blood cleanser, good during convalescence and healing

Echinacea - lymph cleanser, improves lymphocyte and phagocyte actions

Dandelion root - liver and blood cleanser, diuretic, filters toxins, a tonic

Chaparral - strong blood cleanser, with possibilities for use in cancer therapy

Cayenne pepper - blood purifier, increases fluid elimination and sweat

Ginger root - stimulates circulation and sweating

Licorice root - "great detoxifier" biochemical balancer, mild laxative

Yellow dock root - skin, blood, and liver cleanser, contains vitamin C and iron

Burdock root - skin and blood cleanser, diuretic and diaphoretic, improves liver function, antibacterial and antifungal properties

Sarsaparilla root - blood and lymph cleanser, contain saponins, which reduce microbes and toxins

Prickly ash bark - good for nerves and joints, anti-infectious

Oregon grape root - skin and colon cleanser, blood purifier, liver stimulant

Parsley leaf - diuretic, flushes kidneys

Goldenseal root - blood, liver, kidney, and skin cleanser, stimulates detoxification

This detoxification protocol is designed to improve the natural ability of the body to maintain health. Mental detoxification is also important. Cleansing our minds of negative thought patterns is essential to health; the physical detoxification also helps this mental process. Emotionally, detoxification helps us uncover and express feelings, especially hidden frustrations, anger, resentments, or fear, and replace them with forgiveness, love, joy, and hope. On a spiritual level, many people experience new clarity and/or an enhancement of their purpose of life during cleaning processes. A light detox over a couple of days can help us feel better, while a longer process and deeper commitment to a new way of life, such as eliminating certain abusive habits and eating a better diet, will help us really change our whole life.

I have used the TJ's cleanse. I was a little bloated the first week from the increase of fiber, but by the second week, things got moving, and I felt pretty good. If you are looking to feel healthier, and simply clean out the system, I'd recommend it. If you are looking for a weight loss product, I'd try something else.

I haven't used that one, this is what I used:

www.HaveItAllUSA.com.

I released 42 pounds 3 years ago and I have kept it off! It fed my body so that it could function properly. I ate well and I fed my body better than ever before. there was no hunger or anything. I was really amazed. I had more energy than ever, i slept like a baby, i had more mental clarity...WOW!

I have done many cleanses, this is the only one i felt amazing on...and the only one that worked.

Margaret sends an excellent program. I would add a couple of things. The vegies should ideally be raw. If you can't handle that just LIGHTLY steam them. Salads are fine, but forget about most dressings. Spray on amino acids or an oil and vinegar dressing is ok. Am important component eat lightly the night before you start your fast. You can do this for 2-3 days if you want. You might just do it for one day to start. Make sure you have everything you need for the day before you start. THe last thing you want to do is go to the store so also make sure you have whatever you need for the family. It is a great thing to do once a month for one day. Good luck. It is a great thing to do for yourself.

Before you do anything like this, please consult a physician first. There is no just thing as "Spackle" on your colon walls. If you eat a healthy diet with plenty of fiber, there is no need to "flush out the toxins". These are buzz words. They have no scientific basis. The only way to "Flush out the toxins" is with an IV drip formulated for heavy metal poisoning. This is truly a rare condition and must be done under medical supervision. Colon cleansing is another weight loss trend like all the celebrity diets and it will go the way of others. If your doctor says okay, that's another story. Please read up on the pros and cons of "colon cleansing". Then decide.

Hi M., I've used the TJ colon cleanse a few times. I've tried other pricey ones, too. TJ is just as good as the expensive ones. Be sure to take a probiotic to help replenish good bacteria. Good luck. (a 14 year old AND a 2 year old?? Wow. You must have your hands full! Plus step kids? My hat is off to you!)
