Cloth Diapers or Potty Trainers to Start

Im planning on starting to potty train my 2 year old and am wondering what is the best way to start. She just turned 2 and is really close to being ready. I am thinking that I either want to put her in cloth diapers for a couple of weeks or the potty trainers that have the plastic attached. If anyone has any suggestions on what they did and the type of cloth diaper or trainer they used that would be great. I want to start with something that will help her feel the sensation but not leave me with a lot of accidents to clean up. We have tried underware at times when she was younger and then we had a baby so we had to stop the training. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi

Each child is sooo different on potty training but I'll tell you what we did w/ our daughter. It worked PERFECT! We did it when she was about 1 1/2 yo. We just picked a weekend when we didn't have anything going on had her run around the house naked on Saturday. She didn't want to pee on anything so she would tell us. I also asked repeatedly just to make sure. Then on Sunday, we put underwear on her, of course talking up how pretty and beautiful the underpants are and all that stuff too. She peed in her pants once that day and that was it. She's been REALLY good ever since. She did have 1 poopy pants I think the following day or two, but that's it.

I'm sure cloth diapers would be fine, but I was always afraid that pull-ups would be too much like a diaper for her so we avoided them all together. We used them the 1st night for bedtime, but she woke up dry so we just used underwear the following nights.

Good luck and remember that just b/c it works for 1 child, doesn't mean it'll work for another child. Our daughter was pretty ready when we decided to potty train her, I'm just hoping our son is as easy to train;) Something tells me he won't be tho. Oh well.

Keep us posted!

I used panties/trainers with my daughter be casue we were doing Cloth diapering half of the time anyway. I wanted something she could pull down herself (she took to it faster once she had the control to do it from start to finish.

One thing to be aware of though, if you are out in public, is auto toilets. Try to avoid them, we had a set back after a good 6 mos of being trained as a result.

I havent been there yet but i know that a brand called Imse Vimse has pull up type of diapers or padded underware. From what i hear they work pretty well I have a friend that uses them potty training is going pretty well for them. It definately let her know that she is doing something in the pants but protect the clothes. I dont know if it's important to you but all Imse Vimse products are made of organic cotton.

Honestly I tried both with my 2 oldest. And the only thing that worked for them was straight regular underwear and them cleaning it up. (swiffer sprayed with bleach water) But I know what you mean about the accidents. The one thing I did try that seemed easy was using regular underwear (white) and those plastic diaper cover things for cloth diapers. That way the pee held in the plastic. And they were all white so if there was a poop we could just put it in a bucket of bleach water to soak. Also when my kids were able to go a whole week without an accident they got a special trip to the store to buy whatever kind of underwear they wanted. (thomas the train for my son and disney princess for my daughter) they felt like a million bucks. My friend used pull ups and her daughter was still wearing them to bed at age 5 and her son is 4 and still wears them to bed. My son turned 3 last week and has been fully potty trained for about 10 months. And my daughter is 5 and has been fully potty trained since 2 1/2 yrs old. They used pull ups like diapers. My son borrows my friends 4 yr olds pull ups on occasion and he WANTS to pee in them. So that is why I say try to avoid them like the plague. We didn't have them when we were kids and our generation was potty trained alot earlier. Also my kids had their special potty chair. (cheapo from wal-mart with stickers they picked) They weren't the ones that make noise or anything. Just plain old chair to pee in. Nothing more. People say the sound and light ones make the kids distracted. Also just remind remind remind. Will make it super easy.

I would used cloth diapers as a start. I did that with both of my children and it worked very well. The cloth diapers are soft but it makes the kids uncomfortable enough when they go in their pants. It was also so much cheaper than pull-up and you can just throw them in the washer if it gets dirty.
There's a lady named, Christy Wills, that I've odered cloth diapers through: ###-###-####. She even embroidery on the cloth diaper for you for free of charge. She has 3 kids of her own and still using cloth diaper on her 16 months old son.
Good luck
