I need advice on getting the dried on gunk of my stainless steel cookstove. I've tried the barkeepers friend and it just doesn't cut through it. I know, I let it go too long but while I've been trying different things to clean it with it's just gotten worse and worse. Thanks

What can I do next?

I have quite a few stainless steel things in my kitchen and I use a Stainless Steel cleaner. It has the consistency of a silver polish. It does wonders on my sink, stove/oven tops and refrigerator. I am at work, but I'll look up the brand when I get home. We got it when we bought the appliances.

I let my stove parts soak in a mixture of solumel and melamagic and hot water. After about 20 to 30 mins, I'm able to wash it off fairly easy. For the stove, I get a sponge and dunk it in the above solution and wipe it down (scrub - whatever it takes :o)) Not only does it work fantastic but it's safe - no toxins/chemicals!!

C.,
I used to work at a place where We bought this stuff once called Citrol. It is made by Schaeffer manufacturing in St. Louis MO. 63104. I am not kidding it works on my stove like crazy... Try it and tell me what you think.

I had 4 children and I was really busy. I never wanted to clean my stove, so when I did I waited till it was cooked on and this stuff took it off so well, I did a better job at keeping it up. Good Luck.

I'm surprised the bar keepers friend didn't leave scratches. On my stainless steel pans I've used a paste of baking soda and water and simply left it on there to work it's magic. My pans look almost new. I would think that would work for the stove. I would apply the paste, and then put a damp paper towel over the area to keep it moist. Waite several hours and then it should come right off.

There is a special cleaner (I'm sorry I don't know the name of it) for stainless steel stoves. I've used it before. You might try Wal-Mart or Target and see if they have it or online. It is a liquid and is made especially for the stoves-stainless steel kind. You could also check your manual/instructions for your stove and see what they recomemend doing or call the manufacturer/check the website.

We use Barkeepers Friend and it works great, however we do have really work at it. My husband usually handles the stove cleaning, due to my hand disability. Sorry, I can't be of more help.

Hello C.,

I have never had a stainless Steel Cookstove: but I did have a stainless steel icebox and sink and they were hard to keep clean. I found that Windex Glass Cleaner helped keep my sink and icebox clean and streak free. Those finger prints and grease streaks on the icebox and sink just about drove me crazy.. I haven't had a Stainless Steel big Appliance since. <>< Grin ><>
I can't promise anything, maybe it will help. I have found that if I take a rag, wet (soak it) with the windex glass cleaner and lay it over the stuck on gunk and let it set for 30 mins or so. Kinda like a pre soak. Then scrub it off. I sure hope this will help.

A little about me:
I have been married for 31 years. 4 Children (3 sons; 29, 28, 25, and 1 daughter 20) and 6 Grandsons (7, 5, 3, 2, 17 months, and 6 months). I'm a stay at home Grandma and life is my Passion. My husband is a truck driver.

there is an oven cleaner like easy off that is used for cold ovens...you can also use it on your stovetop. Mine is stainless steel and thats what I use. Then I take a rag and apply a small amount of lemon oil and wipe it down and its clean and shines beautifully.
