Church Search-Allen/McKinney/Plano

We are still looking for a church home! I grew up Baptist, and my husband grew up Presbyterian. We are looking for a bible-believing church that still has some degree of traditional worship elements-especially the music. Praise hymns and electric guitars are great, but contemporary worship just isn't the right fit for us.

What can I do next?

I grew up Baptist also, with a little Presbyterian thrown in when I lived in the northeast. My family now attends First United Methodist of Allen and find it to be a nice fit. Although there is a contemporary service at 8:30, there are two more traditional services. The 9:45 service which we attend is called a blended service, but I find it to be pretty traditional (although there is the occaisional band accompanient, it's not very often). There is also a strictly traditional service at 11:00. Everyone is very nice and friendly and there is a great children's program. Hope to see you there! If you'd like, e-mail me if and when you're going to visit and I'll meet you beforehand.

Hi Laura,

We belong to a wonderful church that just moved to our new building last week. WoodCreek Church, located just off 190 and Renner Road. I live in East Plano and take the back way to church.

Music is a mix of traditional and contemporary. We have a great children's program and an awesome youth group.

Laura,

We belong to a great congregation that has wonderful members (Spring Creek Church of Christ). We are located at Spring Creek and Custer in Plano. Our church building caught on fire about 1 year ago and we have finally moved back into our new building. If you are interested in visiting us our Bible classes start at 9AM and services at 10 on Sunday. Let me know and I will be happy to meet you there. Good luck finding the right church - I know how important it is.

Hi Laura,

We love First Baptist McKinney. It has traditional style worship at the 8:30 service and we absolutely love the teachings, the people and the opportunities to get involved. I heard one of our pastors say last week that one of the staff's major goals is to equip parents to raise Godly children. They do an incredible job with everything from Bible studies, VBS, a kids program that parents can attend with them once a month, Mommy and Me playdates, Mother's Day Out, MOPS, etc. Last Sunday, the church stepped out into the community in an effort to "be the church" instead of just being a church. We did service projects all around the community and I love the missional focus they have. There is something for everyone and every age.

I have never been under such solid teaching before and would love for you to visit. If you'd ever like to have someone meet you and show you around, just let me know and I'd be happy to meet you!

Blessings...

There is an awesome little church called Central Baptist in Plano. It's off of Jupiter on 18th street. They have a website. They are super friendly, very family oriented and COMPLEATLY traditional. You will probably know every song that they sing. It is straight out of the hymn books and they are a King James bible preaching church. If you go there..tell them B. Hi Laura~
We attend a great Presbyterian church in McKinney. It is Redeemer Presbyterian (PCA) the website is:

http://www.redeemer-mckinney.org

It is a wonderful, traditional worship. When we moved to Plano we looked into various churches but had a really hard time finding one with the traditional worship we love. It is not a large church (maybe 250) but it is welcoming and has a lot of young families. We have been very blessed to find it. Please let me know if you have any questions! We would love to have you!

First United Methodist Church in Allen (http://www.fumcallen.org/) might be a good blend for the two of you. There are 3 services on Sunday mornings - 8:30 is contemporary, 9:45 is blended, and 11:00 is traditional. I love that they have a real Sunday School class (not a nursery) for my 2.5 yr old son! It is a very welcoming church and we just joined a couple of months ago. Please feel free to message me if I can be of help! We welcome you. :)

We also attend First Baptist in Allen. My hubby is very traditional and enjoys the music. The nursery is awesome! My 3 year old loves going to her class and my 2 month old son is well taken care of in his bed babies class. There are services at 9:00 and 10:30. We attend Sunday School at 9:00 and go to service at 10:30. Both times have great SS classes for young married couples. (My daughter also attends their Discovery Days preschool and we love it!!)

You should try Custer Road UMC in Plano, it is on Custer between Spring Creek and Legacy. My family has been attending CRUMC for 10 years. It is a wonderful church. I was raised Methodist, and my husband was Catholic, we have many couples in our small groups that were raised in two different denominations. I encourage you to come in the next 3 weeks and sign your daughter up for VBS if she is old enough. Our music minister has been with the church for 24 years and is traditional, we sing 3-4 songs each service from the hymnal, the children's and youth programs are phenomninal. Worship is at 8:30, 9:45, and 11:00 am. The Church website is www.crumc.org or you can email me if you have any more questions. ____@____.com searching God will bless you with finding the right Church.

Hi there,
My husband and I attend Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. It is a Bible teaching church that has mostly traditional worship. We do on occasion have contemporary or blended worship. I have been at Stonebriar for 6 years and love it. It is on the bigger side, so if you plan on attending get there early to check in for childcare. The website is stonebriar.org, Chuck Swindoll is the pastor I don't know if you know who he is or not.

My husband and I live in McKinney and we go to Stonebriar Community in Frisco. It is right by the mall, so not far. It is about 11 minutes from us. It is a Bible church, very rooted in Bible teaching, and the pastor is Chuck Swindoll. They have very traditional services and worship, especially the music, which is why we chose it. We wanted that traditional service as well, and that seems to be very hard to find these days. But we also wanted good teaching. We love the church, they have a great moms program I am a part of, great teaching, and lots of ways to get plugged in. I recommend it! Love to see you there. If you decide to try it, email me and let me know and if you are interested in any mom events, I would love to meet you.

Stonebriar Church in Frisco may be your answer. It meets your criteria and is only a short drive from Allen, McKinney and Plano.

The pastor is Chuck Swindall who teaches straight from the Bible. The music is traditional and beautiful - always seems uplifting to me when I visit. They do not have the the litergy you would probably expect in a Presbyterian church.

My daughter and son-in-law are active in the Titus II Sunday School class which is for young marrieds and they just love it. If you visit there, you would feel welcome.

I grew up Baptist and was active in the Presbyterian Church when we lived in the Chicago area. Stonebriar Church is a very comfortable place for those from this background.

If you are open to a "mega-church", we LOVE Stonebriar Community Church. It is located off of Lebanon just to the west of Preston in Frisco. (We live in Allen and drive there because we love it so much.)

I grew up Presbyterian but have also been Baptist as an adult. The pastor is Chuck Swindoll (if you have heard the Insight for Living radio program on KCBI, that is his ministry, and many of the sermons come straight from our church services.) There is a mix of music types, but Chuck believes that the traditional hymns have a lot to teach us and are a rich part of our heritage.

It is a very large church, but you can join a Home FEllowship Group or Adult Fellowship Group to connect on a more personal level with others.

Here is the website: www.stonebriar.org

Sometimes I wish we were at a church closer to our home or with a smaller congregation, but the teaching that me and my husband and our young children are getting far outweighs the disadvantages.

Good luck to you!

Laura,
Most Churches of Christ have traditional services. In your search area I know of Richardson East Church of Christ in particular. We have had several friends attend there. There others closer to you but I don't know about them personally. We attend a Church of Christ that just uses a softly played guitar occasionally and some CD's occasionally. The assembly worship is always so moving. Our congregation is in Rowlett, Heritage Church of Christ. Hope this helps and may the Lord bless your search.

We attend Suncreek United Methodist Church in allen on Mcdermott with Cinda. Our church is like a family. My sister in law is the head pastor and as Cinda says, she preaches and it is like she is speaking to you! You can go on our church website(suncreekumc.org) and listen to her sermons or pick up some at the information desk. She is not only widley respected in Dallas but across the conferance and country. She has a true gift. Our church has grown very rapidly because of the strong leadership and dynamic staff and members. We are not a mega church but a growing church that feels like a small town church. There are tons of young families! Come check us out at 11am if it sounds like something you would like. My brother stands at the information desk and he can help you with any need you have.
Finding a church home is a very personal decision and first impressions seem to matter most. (we have been to soo many churches...Custer road UMC, Christ united metodist, stonbriar community church are all places I have been and enjoyed.... I pray you find somewhere you feel warmth, the love of God,a place that gives you the desire to serve, and a place that you feel God is alive!
