Does anyone know how to speed up the process of filing for child support? I have already submitted information via child support enforcement...Also, can anyone refer me to a reasonably priced lawyer, if there is such a thing? My daughters father lives out of state and I was told it could take up to a year before things are processed...Mediation is not an option because he will not cooperate...I just want to have this order in place asap...Any suggestions are welcomed...

What can I do next?

my experience with filing went a little like this: i filed on June 30,2006 with child support enforcment, they didnt actually get my papers into the computer until july 23,2006, andthey didnt even try to serve my ex the papers until nov 2006. there were some issues with addresses they typed in wrong and some delays with the court, so I actually didnt receive my first payment until Oct 2007. The best advise I can give you is to follow your paper work around on the phn. they switch it from the county clerks office to the attorny generals office and back and forth, so call, call,call... i know that doesn't sound fun, but I didn't see a lot of action on my case until I started calling about it at least once a week... I think they got so sick of me calling, they pushed my case through! I started calling every week in march of 07 and by may 07 i had a court date for aug. 07 I did mine without a lawyer, but my ex lives in town.... I am sorry i dont have any referrals for you.

Hi Tene,

I would do a Google search for "filing child support in Arizona." You can find some good information there. I don't know how it is done today but when I was awarded child support it was done through payroll deduction by the employer and I never missed getting a payment. If the father doesn't have stable employment or changes employers frequently it may be a bit more difficult. Good luck.
By the way, congratulations on being creative and finding a way to be a stay at home mom. Sounds like you are a hard worker being a single mom, providing home daycare AND going to school. Kudos to you!

Hi T.B -

I went over a year after notifying the state that I was not receiving child support. They kept telling me they could not find him. Then I heard about a company called National Child Support. I contacted them - yes they take 34% of what they collect, but it only took them 30 days to find him and get an order to garinshee his wages. They have collected back child support for me since 2000. They have always come through when the state couldn't.

Good Luck,
M.

Hi,

Well, what state do you live in??
If you are in Arizona, you can go to this web site
http://www.supreme.state.az.us/childsup/ and click the calculate support and fill it out. That web site also has a link for the directions to fill it out, which you will need if you've never done one. But the site is a good one b/c all you have to do is add in your #'s and it calculates it for you. then you print it out and submit it to the court, he has 30 days to respond, if he doesn't then the court will put into place the work sheet you submitted, and if he responds, he can only respond with a counter offer. so either way, you will be in the process of getting child support.

If you live in another state, you should just google "child support worksheet" in the state you are in.

Hope this helps
G.
