Cheap Gifts... I Need Some!

Ok, so I am usually on top of x-mas way out. I have 99% of the presents mailed and wrapped by thanksgiving and that is that. But this year we have been invited to 4 to 6 parties that will have hired a man to dress up as Santa and hand out presents. My kids only really get 6 toy presents a year and I am not having them open all the presents at these parties... So I need little toys for the kids to unwrap at these events. I want it to be something e kids will like, but at the same time, not a piece of trash. The boys are easy, hot wheels and other train/car like toys. The girl is the issue. Any ideas for do dollarish toys for a 6 year old girl?

What can I do next?

Pony tail holders, barrettes, head bands, "fancy" toy rings. There are "gum ball" machines with those little squishy toys, Squinkies I think they are called. 50cents gets you a couple.

If you can crochet, you can make a really cute hat with $1 worth of yarn. :-) If you don't know how, you can always watch a tutorial on youtube. There is a really good teacher - search "bobwilson123" or something like that. She has a cool accent, too. :-) It's really easy!

Do you have a Michael's or JoAnn's Fabrics in your area? They have tons of inexpensive little craft kits, from totally girly to less-so. At that age, it might be fun to make one's own barrettes, etc. or come up with their own ideas for the art supplies and beads. I found a load of little craft projects for my preschoolers there that weren't expensive.

Also: pens, glitter pens, stickers and paper might be welcome gifts too.

Smaller lego sets, books, puzzles, games they have been really wanting for a computer or hand held device they already have, small dolls like the miniature Lalaloopsy's or some accessories to dolls she already has, small My Little Ponies, Squinkies, Play Doh, just about any little accessory she wants that goes with something she already has.

One year at one of those parties I gave my son that little electronic 20Q(20 questions game). Its like a little round thing and it comes in different colors. It asks you to think of something then asks questions about it. It ends up guessing it everytime. Anyway, all my kids loved it and asked for one
after that. I think they are like $5 at walmart.

Get a big bucket, fill it with beans (you can eat them afterwards) DRY beans I mean!
Put some dollar gifts in there, the kids won't even care what gifts they get, they will love sifting through those beans to find them!

Do you have a dollar store near you? Walking the aisles will give you great ideas. Or, try crayons, hair accessories, coloring books, bubble bath, candy, paints, a jingle bell necklace or lip gloss.

Go to the dollar bin at Target. They have some cute hair accessories, coloring sheets with Disney princesses, games, puzzles, etc. Plenty of fun stuff for kids and only for a dollar.

Silly band bracelets, stickers, and other $1 stuff that you can get at Joanne's. There is one in La Crescenta/La Canada.
