Kayak.com will show you the current fares available on many sites all at once--you can use this to see which is cheapest, then go there to book. I agree that booking directly with the airlines is usually best--and cheapest--but you can save yourself the work of going to each site individually by going straight to kayak first. They don't do southwest, however--you have to check them separately.

You can also go to farecaster.com to get a 30-day trend on airfares, to see if a certain route is likely to up or down. Unfortunately, for most routes, the past week or two have been higher than avg--for travel next month, I'm not sure if you'll want to wait and see if they go down, or not.

For the future, you can also subscribe to email deals from hotwire and travelzoo, so you'll get news of the best sales available each week. In addition, you can sign up for kayak to track a particular route for you--i get an email whenever rt dallas-boston is under $300. GL!

travelzoo.com seems to have some great deals. My neighbor just booked to Hawaii super cheap.

Hi Keyna,

I just booked some tickets on priceline.com...they have pretty good offers right off the bat. But if your times are flexible and you are looking to save some extra money make your own offer.

By doing this I ended up saving $50.00 per ticket.

Best of Luck!

I only book directly with the airlines. We use American and Southwest. Both run great deals so check them out first.

If you book a month out you should get pretty good pricing. Remember, when you buy from the discounters, you are most likely to be the first one bumped, no negotiations if your flight is cancelled, etc. Be wary....Sometimes it works great but be aware.

You might try craigslist.org. Sometimes people are selling airline tickets cheap there.

Our favorite is Southwest Airlines. They usually have the best competitive prices, especially if you book a month out. They get higher the closer you book.

Southwest also has special rates which are released on each Tuesday of every week.

Disadvantage is that Southwest does not go everywhere.

But they will credit your entire ticket price back to you to use at a later date with NO refund fees if you have to change plans. That is a big plus to us. The other airlines will charge a refund fee up to $100 to $125 just to change your tickets!! When you buy cheap, like we do, that is almost the entire cost of the ticket.

Good Luck!!
