I was wondering if anyone out there knew if endometreosis can cause severe cramps but not be on your period. My doctor told me a couple of years ago I had endometreosis when I had some surgery. All of a sudden today I have really bad cramps but my period is like 2 weeks away. This hasn't happened before. I usually have bad ones during my period, but this is extremly bad. Anyone ever had this?
I've been around a couple people with this and yes they would get cramps even if it wasn't their time of the month. I also heard that the surgery can be needed more than once.
I had surgery to remove endometreoisis about 12 years ago and yes it can cause cramping. But this could also be ovulation. It seems like the older I get, the more painful it is. And it's like clockwork...2 weeks before my menstrual cycle starts. Hope this helps!
I'm currently going in for exploratory surgery to confirm that I have endo. My understanding is yes it can cause cramping when you are not on your period. It could be that you are ovulating too. I had a severe (double me over started crying) sharp pain on my right side where my mystery lump is and I had an ultra sound a week afterwards come to find out I had a cyst that had erupted. So depending on what the pain is.....it could be quite a few things that are going on. Doctors still know very little on Endometreosis.
It's very possible, but it's also possible that you ovulated, if the timing's right. Ovulation can be excruciating for some. My sister's kidney stone was originally diagnosed as ovulation pain---Mittleschmertz, or some such name. Cramps usually originate low in the pelvis, ovulation pain is usually one-sided. Either way, a talk with your Dr. is in order. Endometriosis usually needs treatment at some point, or it can spread throughout your abdomen.
