I get terrible cramps when I'm ovulating - like doubled over pain. It's been happening ever since I went off the pill. Does this happen to anyone else? Or do I need to call my doctor??

What can I do next?

I get something like this at ovulation. But it's more off to the side, like my ovaries ache. I brought it up with my GYN once and she called it "middle-schmutz" or something like that. It's normal.

But doubled over in pain doesn't sound normal. Talk to you GYN about it.

That happened to me when I had ovarian cysts. If the pain is that bad, definitely check in with your doc. Hope you get better soon!

You should have it checked out just to be safe, but it's probably "middlesmerch" -a German term (I'm sure I misspelled) -for painful ovulation. Luckily for me I've never had terrible menstrual cramps, but I've gotten down in dressing room floors in a cold sweat from ovulation cramps! It doesn't always happen, but it's been so bad before it's felt like someone was cutting their way out of me with a jagged knife. When you were on the pill, you didn't ovulate, so -it didn't happen!

This happens to me too. I went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound -- found nothing. She told me this "just happens" to some women. She said I could take 800 mg of Motrin twice a day or so the day before I ovulate and the day of, and sometimes the day after if there is lingering pain. However, I usually forget until it is too late! You should check with your doctor of course, to make sure nothing else is going on. Good luck.

As other say, possibly a cyst. Or maybe something more serious. As far as cysts go. Once diagnosed properly they will determine how big it is, If its not of concern, they will leave it alone and suggestion pain medications. As long as it does not grow, or disrupt your daily life, they wont go in for something that can go away on its own. Often cysts come and go. If the cysts begins to grow, the pain is too great to bear, or its causing other secondary issues. They can sometimes break them apart with a sonogram. Like Kidney stones. The last effort would be surgery. I think its covered under most insurances. Check with them first if it comes down to that. However, extreme pain at anytime should always be looked at. Could be nothing but why wonder and suffer?

This happens to me, too. I have 3-days of cramps that are worse than when my period comes. My doctor just called them ovulation pains.

go and get checked to see if you have a cyst.

I get them every couple of years and it's horrible pain and its when Im ovulating also. My Dr have been able to reach "in" and roll my ovary and pop the cyst. It hurts like hell when he popped it, but it was better than being in pain every month.

Totally normal, BUT, if you're in that much pain, I'd guess you might have an ovarian cyst. Again, totally normal, but the larger the get and depending on where they are, it can get pretty painful. I can feel that I've got one on my right side. Nothing bad enough to warrant going to the doctor (I can't afford for them to do anything anyway), but just enough to make me want to curl up and moan about it while I'm ovulating!

Hope you feel better soon :)

totally normal to have cramping during ovulation. However, double over pain not so normal. I would contact my OB/GYN and ask what they think. let them check you out to make sure you don't have cysts on your ovaries or any endometriosis growing.
