Breast Pain? - Broomfield,CO

I haven't breast fed in years, have a four year old and a seven year old.
Three weeks ago I started having bad pains under my armpit but in my right breast, deep pain, almost like it was with mastitis. I found what kind of seems like a bump but it is hard to tell.
I thought maybe it was from my bra and gave it some time. It is still there. If I push on the place to try to feel the bump it hurts like H*ll! I mean searing pain.

Yes, I have a Dr appt on Thursday, however I don't have personal insurance on myself, just my kids and God forbid it is anything more intense then maybe a cyst. I know I will probably have to go for a mammogram as well. Does anyone know the cost of those?

I don't have a family history of breast cancer, but I am 43 too. I always heard that breast cancer wasn't painful in that you couldn't feel the pain from the lump. Is that true?
I am nervous, trying to keep it out of my mind I just wondered had anyone else experienced this?
The bump seems odd in shape, seems deep into my breast almost to my muscle by my armpit.
It isn't overly painful unless I touch the area. Just praying at this point.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to the Dr this morning. She found the lump it is oblong in shape and very painful. She is thinking it is a lymph node and has given me two weeks to see if it is still there and painful. If in fact it is still there I have to go get a ultrasound of my right breast. I am due for a mammogram too, so I have to see about that. The cost of the ultrasound is ridiculous but I can figure something out. Rather safe then sorry. She did say the fact it was so painful she wasn't ultra concerned since there is some minimal pain in my left breast as well. I am sort of freaked out, wanted I guess a quick and easy answer today to put my mind at ease. Thanks for the support and suggestions. I did call People Clinic, I have to find time to go in and apply first and I am not sure with my marital support or my child support I will qualify for assistance. Being without insurance sucks. I just cannot afford $350 a month for myself. Thank GOD! My kids are completely covered through my ex's employer.
Thanks all, I will keep you updated. Anyone had issues with their breast lymph nodes?

Hi D. I was just having sort of the same thing and went to the doctor and they said it was a form of mastitis. I had some clogged ducts, same thing I haven't breast feed in years but she said you can get it from bumping or bruising it somehow. Anyway about the no insurance thing I also have the same situation since I have switched jobs to stay at home and have had abnormal paps I cant get insurance. However when you go to the doctor you just tell them you dont have insurance and you actually get better prices then if you had insurance and if you can pay the same day you usually get a discount on top of that. Yesterday my office visit was 81.00 and 57.00 after discount and my prescription was 4.00. Just be honest and while in there keep telling them you dont have insurance and people will usually lower their rates and work with you. As for the mammogram unfortunately I haven't had to have one without insurance so I am unsure but hopefully it will work out good as well. I will be praying for you.

Good luck. I've been through a similar situation which wasn't serious - but if you need a mammo - check out the People's clinic in Boulder. Depending on your financial situation, they may be able to help. They fund mammos through the Susan B Komman Foundation, and others.

It could be just a clogged duct!?
My neighbor gets them all the time and is shocked that I don't. She says they are hard painful lumps and she has to massage them out.
Perhaps see if you can go to a low cost clinic and pay just a drop in fee. They can at least determine if is just something minor and you can go from there.

I had the same type of symptom start a few years ago. I am 44 years old and learned that it was a symptom of perimenopause. It was a symptom of estrogen dominance where the hormones are dropping but the estrogen doesn't drop as rapidly as the progesterone. I went on low dose birth control pills to regulate my period which was out of wack also(I had also just started a new relationship and needed to prevent pregnancy) and I started progesterone cream (found at any Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage) which really seemed to help a lot. So, when you are able to see a doctor you might request they do a test to see where those hormone levels are and see if it might just be perimenopause.

I too don't have insurance and have learned to be very proactive when it comes to my physical well-being. I do research and ask lots of questions so I can maximize any visits to the doctor.

If you are interested in the mind-body connection, I have learned that self-care and self-nurturing are definitely a connection for breast issues. For most of my life I gave, gave, gave to everyone but myself. Now I give to me first and then I have much more to share with others.

Best Wishes!
