With my DS I had a leather couch so when he would burp up I could just wipe it up with warm soap and water.
Now with my DD I have a microfiber couch, which they tell you when you by it if you spill anything on it oyu just use warm soap and water rub in circles and the stain will come out.
The burp up stain does come out but the smell stays in the cushion.
How do I get the smell out???? That wont ruin the cushion??

What can I do next?

Try baking soda. Sprinkle it on, leave it, then vacuum it off.

We have microfiber too. I used baby wipes on our couch. It took the smell out and never left a stain. I also have a special cleaner that I use on them about once a month.

simple solution from the pet store - Petsmart. I use it on all kinds of stains and it removes odors really well. If you can take the cover off the cushion, spray the cushion and leave it outside in the sun for several hours. Sunlight will remove alot of odors. My cat peed on a bean bag, I washed the cover, sprayed it with Simple Solution, then set the bean bag outside, rotating it for 3 days in the sun, and you can't smell anything. Also worked on our mattress when my daughter fell asleep in our bed and had an accident - we sprayed it and took it outside for several hours.

I use Natures Miracle, which you can also get at the pet store. I've tried a lot of the other brands and nothing works as well on biological stains and smells as Natures Miracle. I find it's a must with pets and kids. It gets out urine, vomit and pet stains and smells. It's come in handy with laundry too!

It's a little pricey but it works! Be careful of what you do decide to use, some chemicals can actually set the smell and then you can never get it out! (learned that the hard way!) Natures Miracle is a natural enzyme product so the smell really goes away! (Oh and it's great for the car too!)

Hope you find something that works!

Try "Incredible". It is a clear, enzyme based stain cleaner. Spot test it first on an inconspicuous spot-although I have NEVER had it stain anything-and if all goes well, soak the area. Let it sit a bit and then blot.
This is one of those small brands that really is incredible. You can find it at Kroger or Target-probably most of the grocery stores. It is in the cleaning products aisle, usually either at the top or bottom of the shelves. White 16 oz. plastic bottle with blue and red labeling. I ALWAYS keep a few bottles on hand. It will also handle cat pee, blood, everything.
Good luck.

Oh wow...that is a great question!!! My guess is that you don't get the smell up...the milk as probably soaked beyond the cover and into the stuffing of the cushion!!! I would say this is the place that the old saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" comes in....burp him before you let him off of your lap...then he will hopefully not be "decorating" your sofa!!!!

I had the same problem- I would use sol-u-mel. It is a 3in1 cleaner, stain remover, deodorizer. And clean it immediately. I just changed to leather couches for just this reason. It is so much easier to clean up and I don't have to worry about it penetrating the foam cushion.
