Bladder Infections :( - Cuba,MO

I had my third baby two weeks ago and am on bladder infection #2. I also had 3 bladder infections while pregnant. This is all new to me since I didn't have this with my first two babies. With this baby I was also Strep B positive (not sure if this is the difference or not). This really sucks needless to say. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? What did your doctor do for you? I am on my second round of med's starting today and would really like for this problem to just go away.

I have no problems taking the medicine that the doctor gives me, but apparently it is not working. It is called Microbid (sp?). I also am not into herbal things or natural soultions. I would rather just pop a pill and not have to think about it until it is time to take the med again. I am drinking a bunch of water to try to help out.

Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

D-Mannose, worked wonders for me. It's available in health food store and some drug stores. After taking this for about 2 days the bladder infection went away and I have not had one ever since.

Sorry I don't have advice on the antibiotic side, but if you are having a lot of pain, I would ask your dr if you can take Azo. It is over the counter but if you are breastfeeding, then I would call the dr first. It is a miracle!!! I had a horrible bladder infection after I got married, took like 2-3 weeks to get better. I took this stuff and it was awesome! When you finish a round of antibiotic you can just stop using it and see if you are pain free and if not call the dr. It makes your pee red, but it totally kills the pain so if you can take it I highly recommend it!! Feel better:)

after being on 2 rounds of antibiotic that kills all the bacteria good and bad you need to put probiotics (good bacteria) back in your system to help fight this infection. you can get it in some milks, yogurt, or in pill form as long as it is active live cultures. Has your doctor run a culture on the urine to see just what antibiotic will work. I would do a 3rd round without that being done. Hope you get to feeling better soon, I have had plenty of these infections myself, and being on an antibiotic makes it difficult to take care of a little one.

My grandma always told me to drink cranberry juice. The real 100% cranberry juice, not the juice cocktail. I had a bad bladder infection and I was given Cephlex (I think that's what it was called). You might just need a different or stronger antibiotic to knock it totally out of your system. There is a pill that you can take to help prevent bladder infections. It's AZO..I think. Not sure of the name.

You can get cranberry pills which don't have the sugar the juice does. Also, someone mentioned yogurt. There are also acidopholis (sp?) pills you can take. I personally do not like yogurt very much, but I take the gel caps when I need to help the balance.

I've suffered from bladder problems my entire life....watered down cranberry juice and vitamin C are your best friends. 2000 miligrams of vitamin c, every single hour on the hour will knock it out and make you feel a hundred percent better in just a day. It won't hurt you, but could make your stools loose for a day after.

It's not uncommon to require two rounds of antibiotics for a bladder infection and if the second one doesn't help, I think you'll need to switch to something else. Drink as much water as possible and try cranberry juice although it won't cure you. If you don't feel the antibiotics are working, speak with your doctor. Bladder infections can travel to the kidneys and that's the last thing you need with a brand new baby.

Also, get as much rest as you can.
Best wishes!

I'm sorry but I laughed when you said that you're not into "natural solutions". Everything we need for good health is found in nature and I don't mean that you need to go to any extremes. I am always amazed at the way people are okay with "popping a pill" just because the doctor says so.

In addition to your antibiotics (which you may possibly need to switch to a different one), drink some cranberry juice...it works.

You also need to drink plenty of cranberry juice. If you don't like cranberry juice, try the kind with apples or grapes. It is really good when it is cold. You are already drinking plenty of water. If you think the meds aren't working, call your doctor. It takes time for the meds to work. To relieve some of the pain, take AZO for pain. It works when I have bladder pain and it is totally safe. It will just turn your pee a funny color so you may want to wear a light pad.
