I am having my son's birthday party on Saturday and there is a chance of rain. :( We have a bounce house rented, but depending on the percantage of rain they may not deliver it. I need some ideas to make it a successful party if we need to do it inside or in the garage. Can you please help a mom who wants to make her son's party a great party even if it rains! Thanks so much for your time!

What can I do next?

You could set up an obstacle course in your garage. I did a pirate party for my son at 5 and had them do a game for each piece of their pirate gear. They got a tattoo when they came in, then a station for their mustache/beard, then they had to knock over bottles for their bandana and walk the plank for their sword. All of them had a great time and it was a lot of fun. They kept their pirate gear for their favor. I also took pictures of each pirate to include with their thank you note.

Blessings and don't make it hard. Just go with the flow and know boys just love to play with each other!

Wrap a toy, then wrap it again and again until you have several layers of paper on it. It's best if you alternate colors for each layer so it's easy to tell when you've unwrapped one layer to stop unwrapping during the game. On each layer of paper, tape a small task, like "do the chicken dance", "tap your head while rubbing your tummy", etc... Then play hot potato where they all sit or stand in a circle and pass the package until the music stops. When it stops, the person holding it unwraps one layer of paper and has to do what the task says. Then keep going until all layers have been unwrapped and the person to unwrap the last layer gets to keep the toy. I have done this and I always have smaller prizes for everyone else, too.

Depending on the number of kids you have, have 4-6 spots in the garage. You can place a sheet of colored paper on each spot, or number them. Then also have a bowl or bag with slips of paper with each of the colors or numbers. To start the game, each child picks a spot to stand on. There can be several at each spot depending on how many kids you have, but encourage them to spread out so they aren't all bunched at one spot while other spots are empty. Then pull a color or number from the bag and everyone at that spot is out. Then they scramble to a new spot and you pull out another one from the bag (put the color/number back in the bag each time.) When there are only a few kids left, say this time when you pull the color/number, that will be the winner, and have a small prize for the winner.

Anything with music and movement is good, like freeze dance

You could have a movie Party. Set up a consession stand, give them fake money to buy treats, dress up at the person who works there, and take thier tickets. Get those small plastic popcorn boxes fromTarget , set up rows of seat in the movie room. Party favors can be bag of popcorn, and $5 gift certificates to Cinemark.

Bubble Party. Get some ballons and bubble wrap. Pick a room, move out the furniture, or push to the side. Line the whole room with bubble wrap and fill it with ballons. Enter boys. Unimaginable fun. We did this once, it was so simple, I wasn't sure it would work, but they had a freakin blast! They loved popin gthe bubble wrap, sliding on it, and throwing up the hundreds of ballons. It does take a lot of breath out of you, lol, and it's time consuming to set up that many ballons, but it was so funny to watch my 6 year old boys going crazy like a cat with catnip! As a cool off, watch Up while you serve them a treat. We made a craft too, paper mache hot air ballons. Do this in the same room after everythings been popped, that way the mess can just be rolled up in the layers of bubble wrap and tossed. Easy clean up.

Indoor "camp out". Not a sleep over, but you could do it in the day and black out the windows with long black paper from Teacher's Tools, Or have a late party, where they stay from 8-11pm. HAve them come in camp clothes, or jammies. Set up tents in a big room. (small tents at Ikea for $9)
have sleeping bags, or have them bring. Get mini flashlights for them. Set up a fake fire, usuing construction paper and real branches or cardboard. OR use yoru fireplace. Roast marshmellows and hot dogs over a grill or stove. scatter fake bugs all ove rthe place, download a nature ambiance cd to play softly in thebackground. Tell child appropriate ghost stories tot he kids. HAve them play games that are camp themed, you can goggle some. I found a list once, although I can't remember where. Make camp crafts. Gift bags could include a mini compass, mini flasjlight, mini bug net. trail mix.

Good Luck!

I may be a bad mom; however, it rained this year at my dd's party and we had the pavillion at the park reserved so we still had it. We didn't use it very much though. The kids played in the rain and had a blast. I would just do the cake and presents in the garage. The kids said it was the "best birthday party ever." Mind you there wasn't any lightning or anything. Hope this helps.

BTW we have some really neat pictures of kids playing in puddles.
