Birthday/Christmas Gifts for 1St Girl Birthday

I would suggest a kitchen set. My DD's bday is on Dec 27th, and she got one for her first bday. She wasn't ready to play with it then, but she did really start to love it at about 18months - and if we had waiting to give it to her at her 2nd bday/Christmas we would have lost 6 great months of playing with it. For her 1st, we got the basic kitchen set and a few pieces of food, pots and plates. Then for her 2nd, we added more food, a tea set, and other fun things like a cupcake set, pizza set, etc - she was soooo excited when she opened each one, because she already loved playing with the kitchen so much!

Well you can't get too girlie for a girl! Dolls, a dollhouse (she'll be ready for it in a few months), disneystore.com has personalized throw blankets on sale for $15 with free shipping (I'm getting my my 3 year old a Minnie Mouse one).

Something that I have started doing for the last few years for kid's birthdays, is buying something for bath time (toys, fun towels or washcloths, bubble bath). I realized that noone ever thinks about bath time (usually buys the latest toys). Also, I was just at a one year party and she got a couple of the pillow pets. Also, maybe someone could get a year membership at one of the local attractions (zoo, kid's museum). Hope this helps!

clothes--even if you have enough right now tell them sizes bigger that you may need in the future. Even diapers are something to unwrap as they do enjoy unwrapping the gifts.

You can always weed out some of the other toys to make room for the new ones.

I agree with asking for clothes, especially since her b-day and Christmas are so close. It's nice to have at least one season of clothes provided for you! ;) I also agree that both a kitchen and the Little Mommy dolls would be great gifts. My daughter got one of the dolls for her 1st and she didn't play with it right away, but at 3 she still carries that doll everywhere and it is favored over all the others. Also F.P. makes a fabulous doll stroller/walker. I would suggest one of those, or at the very least any walker type thing. My daughter loved her walker (not one you sit in, just push) and used it all the time, plus the stroller look was cute. A play kitchen is also so fabulous! My son is 1 and he plays with his sister's all the time, now mind you, "play" is used loosely as mostly he likes to open the doors and dump out all the food, but he enjoys it and about 18 months your daughter will start using it all the time!

My girls each got the Little Mommy twins for their 1st bday, and still love them at ages 5.5 and 2.5. They are nice dolls for little ones, and inexpensive (Target, Kohls, and Toys R Us all sell them). They also enjoy pushing them in a stroller and shopping cart. At this point, try to avoid "baby" toys that will only be age appropriate for the next year or so, and think of toys that she can use for years to come... kitchen set, doll house, stroller, shopping cart. You can always suggest books too.

Oh yeah... my other favorite 1st birthday gift is a growth chart to hang on her bedroom wall and measure her height every year!

I haven't read all of the responses so I do apologize if this is a duplicate. We would get my kids a small something, toy, book, whatever and you could ask that whomever is asking you what to get your daughter, to put the money in a savings bond that they can enjoy when they are older and could use some extra money. I love seeing a one-year-old enjoy their very own big, fancy birthday balloon. Sometimes they are ten dollars or more, for the big mylar helium animals, so it's okay to tell someone that it's all she needs. We got more than a month's worth of giggles out of each of my kids' first birthday balloons. :o) Children's books are also a good idea, as they will last for years, whether you read them to the babies now or let them learn to read with them in kindergarten. Girly bibs, hats, mealtime utensiles, winter warmth items, etc., can also be good ideas. I hope she has a great birthday!

My first purse!! Some come with "make-up" or a phone and keys, etc (all teether type items). We got my niece one, she'll be 2 in Jan and still carries it EVERYWHERE (we see it in lots of pictures).

Also, my first puppy pal from leap frog (it comes in green and violet). My niece is born Jan.3rd so last year we did 1st Christmas/birthday as well. These were the 2 things we got and see loved them and still does. This dog made it's tv premier when her parents sold their house on HGTV (I knew I did well).

What about getting gifts for a shelter or canned goods for a food pantry......start a new tradition of birthday giving. Collect donations at the party and give it to your favorite charity or program. Otherwise, I think some of the other ideas are also great. Clothes, a kitchen set, baby dolls are always a great gift for that age. I really liked the idea of bath toys, bubbles, the crayons or special towels..

at 1 she won't really get it yet. i actually would ask for practical stuff like clothes. all the other birthdays after this will be much harder. relax about this one - she won't even realize what's going on.

New books that no other child has ever mouthed on!

I also think she might really enjoy the Fisher Price Nativity scene, since her bday is so close to Christmas (I know, more toys but this one is special to the season, as she is)

us christmas babies got it harder than the other kids. especially when we are number 2. I suggest a baby doll. one is old enough for one. not clothes and stuff yet. but maybe a baby book also. a special blanket or something. clothes are always needed no matter your age. something along that line.
