Come on! Give it to me!

We are down to Memphis or Springfield MO for a weekend eataway! Clearly I want Memphis to win so give me some ammo folks.

What are the best places to eat in Memphis? I am not talking the places I can google, I am good at google, I want the places you would go to! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are pretty much going for fat! The only drawback to Memphis is the beer sucks. O well, can't have it all.

Tracy, if I get him to go we will be sure to do that. Troy loves blues so it isn't like it is suffering or anything. :)

Cheryl, Springfield is where Troy works a lot and there is a microbrewery he wants me to try. :) I am pretty sure I am going to win this one. :)

8kids, we tried to get down there this May but couldn't with my daughter graduating, moving, stressing, needing, ya know how they get when faced with the fact that they are adults? :p

Corky's, Gus's Fried Chicken, Blues City Cafe (dry ribs!) and Folk's Folly for fine dining. I have never had it but I hear Ghost River has a brewery here and it is pretty good! Have fun where ever you go!
Now I'm hungry!!!

I know the dude is completely irritating, but have you ever seen Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives? He went to a few places in Memphis that looked awesome! You might be able to see his reviews on youtube...?? Also, I saw Memphis on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." Here is a link with all the restaurants featured on both shows!! (Actually, you have to follow a link from the page, for Best Thing.)

Texas style BBQ is so radically differant from Memphis BBQ. I would look for a smoke stack and follow my nose to a local bbq and blues joint.

Do me a favor - go the crossroads, play some old Robert Johnson style blues, and pour out a little liquor for the bluesman that have passed. It just wouldn't be right not to.

Neely's BBQ! They have a show on food network so we checked it out when we were up that way. It was great and I'm not usually a BBQ person.

And I realize this is part of "the google," but check out what they have to say on roadfood.com. They tend to have really good suggestions for down-home food.

Sorry - J.!! Can't help you with this one!! We've never stopped in Memphis!!!

I am sure there are some GREAT BBQ places though!!! I like Tracy's idea - find a smoke stack and follow your nose!!!

however, what I can say? Memphis is a heck of a lot better than Springfield, MO!!! Come ON MEMPHIS BABY!!!!

Its been a long time since I've been in Memphis. The best place I remember was a BBQ place called "Gridleys".

I like the TV show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". I know they have shown a couple of places in Memphis or surrounding areas. I'd go to their web site, find the restaurants they like and go there. I've been to several of the restaurants they feature and all of them have been excellent.

The national BBQ contest is held in Memphis and its called "Memphis in May." If you schedule another trip to taste the best Memphis has to offer, I'd go during the "Memphis in May" BBQ Cookoff.

Hope you have fun. Good luck to you and yours.

Pretty much any run down looking hole in the wall is good. I LOVE Corkey's. Patricks is awesome. I especially love their cheeseburgers. Huey's is good too. I don't like Neely's very much at all. Kooky Canuck is great too, it used to be Big Foot Lodge. Oh and I can't forget about Germantown Commissary. IT HAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST EVERYTHING.

Marlowes is awesome for BBQ. Its down the road from Graceland, which is also awesome, and they will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off (in a small pink limo if you will have little girls with you that would love that). They have fried green tomatoes, fried corn fritters and really good BBQ.
Mud island is really cool too. And go to the Peabody hotel and see the ducks. I would suggest NOT eating at Silky Osullivans on Beale street. Neet atmosphere, bad food.
