My daughter is toiltet trained during the day. At night she is wearing pull up. In the last 3 weeks she has started to wake up between 3-5am and pee in the pull up. SHe frequently is leaking through the diaper and then requests to sleep with us due the wet sheets. We are trying to decreased the amount she drinks before bedtime, but are there other recommendations. She has also started to have accidents at day care and home which we presume is because she is getting too distracted to want to stop and go to the bathroom.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, we have not tried much yet. She did not wet for 4 days when she did not get alot to drink at night. We do use a night time pull-up. She is still having accidents during the day and has a pretty congested cold and wants to drink more than eat. She may have more than a cold so I will check it out with the doctor as her ears were plugged the other day. I do not think I will try waking her at night since she has always had problems going to sleep. Good to know she does not have to be potty trained completely at such young age. These days it's hard to know what is okay with all the push for kids to be doing things at younger and younger ages.

I have a 6 year old that I am trying to night train. She was day trained by 3, and we have let her sleep in pull-ups until this point. Now we wake her up around midnight to use the potty and don't allow her to drink after dinner. It isn't easy ... she cries when we wake her. She is dry about 1/2 the time in the morning. Luckily, she has a bunk bed, so if she has an accident, she wakes up, takes off her underwear and goes to the other bunk. Good luck!

P. - this sounds kind of strange, but chiropractic care can make a huge difference in children who have bed wetting issues. If you're in the south metro, I can recommend a couple of good chiropractors that can help.

Good luck,

I would take her to the doctor first also. If there is nothing medical then I would try waking her up in the night to take her and have daycare remind her to go more often.

We went through a phase where we would wake out daughter up when we went to bed and have her go to the bathroom - sometimes I am not sure she was even awake! She never had trouble falling asleep and we no longer had the unwanted morning issues.

I would take her in to the doctor to rule out a bladder or urinary tract infection. For accidents like that to just pop up out of nowhere, when the child has otherwise been potty trained, is unusual.

My son too is potty trained during the day, but it is hit or miss during the night. When my son peed at night he would wake up because he had peed onto his bedding using a regular pull up. I switched to night time pulls ups, he has not leaked through since we switched. Originally I told him we were going to wear diapers at night, because I was tired of changing sheets at 3a, and he got very upset, so I tried the Huggies night time pulls up and they have worked well! No leaks since we switched

sometimes artificial colors can cause bedwetting, I know on 3 occassions where it was yellow 5. As to what to do at daycare, no idea.
good luck,
S.
PS: I am a somewhat older mom too, I am 50 with a 14 year old. I homeschool and work part time, sometimes I think it would be nice to have an older moms group.

Just a thought but could she maybe have a UTI?

Pull-ups are designed to absorb less, so for night-time you may want to switch to a regular diaper or even a night-time diaper. You can also use the absorbant crib pads in your daughter's bed and put 2 layers of everything on her bed, so when she does leak through, you only have to remove one set of bedding and the second set is already there and ready to go.

YES there is another recommendation: Before you climb into bed, get your daughter up out of her bed, take her into the bathroom and pull down her underpants and while helping her balance, sit her on the potty. This is a subliminal trick I enjoyed using on my girls when they were going through nighttime potty-training. Anyhow, 3 years old is pretty young to be potty trained for 24/7. Good luck with everything!!
