Bamboo Floors What Do You like /Dislike About Them?

We had bamboo installed throughout our first floor about 12 years ago. I am a terrible house keeper and they have held up really well even in the kitchen where we spill a lot of water. If you have dogs they can put scratches in any type of wood or bamboo flooring so be aware of that. To clean I just use a damp mop pad or a little bit of Method floor cleaner. We put protective pads on the bottom of furniture legs. We will be selling our house in a year or so and all I expect to do to the bamboo is clean and maybe a little "polish".

Bamboo is much more tolerant of changes in humidity that any other wood floor other than oak (about equal).

I put bamboo floors into my whole house in 2004 (we've since moved, and now keep that house as a rental). Back then you got it in "natural" or "carbonized" and "vertical" or "horizontal". There were no stains or fancy stuff, it was pretty basic. We put in "carbonized vertical".

It's truly a beautiful floor, but we did make some mistakes. First of all, we should have gone with a pre-finished product. Instead we put it in raw and had it finished on site (don't know if you can even do that anymore). The process took a long time and parts had to be redone. We'd been told that bamboo was as hard as oak or maple. NOT when it's been carbonized - it loses some of its hardness. So the first night we were in, our child dragged a cardboard box across the floor and unfortunately, on the underside were a couple of staples holding the box together...yep, a nice long (but very shallow) scratch in the floor. Our furniture placement covered it, but *I* know it's there and it bothers me a bit. And all in all, the floor *does* scratch more easily than I was lead to believe.

BUT it's easy to keep clean and it is REALLY beautiful. I'm actually planning on putting in bamboo in my current house when we start our remodel. But this time, I'm putting in "natural" with a dark stain and it'll most likely be "horizontal" because I haven't even seen "vertical" recently.

We put in bamboo flooring in our bedroom when we first moved in 8 years ago, I wish we had done more rooms with it. It has held up really nice, even with 3 cats. We have cork flooring downstairs and with my son's toys and the cats that has not held up as nicely. Definately recommend the bamboo!

We installed bamboo flooring in a child's bedroom a few years ago.

It's a fantastic choice, considering it's environmentally friendly, looks nice, easy to maintain, etc.

And my uber busy husband did it all by himself. He bought a table saw and installed it in a couple of weekends.

When we were looking to install HW floors downstairs our contractor reccomended bamboo. We went with oak to keep with the look of the existing floors but from what I understand, it's a great choice.

We bought bamboo for the kitchen when we redid it two years ago. We love it! It's easy to clean, looks great and since we bought the stranded kind, not one knick, ding, scratch, nothing! Still look like they are brand new! We had heard bamboo can mark a lot and since the kitchen is high traffic and there are 5 in our family, we spent the extra on the super strong stranded variety. It was the best decision and it was very reasonable in price. I really recommend it!

I have heard great stuff about bamboo floors, but have no experience. I'd just like to say that I wouldn't want to have to worry about keeping my house at high humidity. You might end up with mildew or damage to your furniture, just for your floor's sake...
