Hi my 8 month old has been tired for the last 2 days, just wants to sleep and so cranky all the time, doesnt have much of an appetite either, refuses solids and only takes the milk.. Besides sleeping at night she takes to naps a day 11-1 and 3-5, so she shouldn't be tired, last night I heard her cry a couple of times but she didnt wake up until morning. She has no teeth yet and I checked her gums and they are NOT puffy or red, so it doesnt look like she's teething.. Any ideas to why she might be feeling this way??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I've taken her to the doc and they didnt find anything wrong with her, they took an xray of her belly and told me that she was backed up, she vomited twice in two days, and they passed it off as a bug, well she already had the stomach flu in Dec and back in Jan she had this same thing happen to her already whats happening now, and the docs didnt find anything back then either, I've been keeping my eye on her for these two days, after she eats she doesnt burn she poops and all but doesnt pass gas or burp and in the evening especially her belly gets so huge and in all my efforts of trying to burp her I cant!! So I'm worried that she has something seriously wrong with her cause she makes a face like she's in pain and then cries right after, and doctors didnt help any :((( I'm so worried!!!

I suggest that her body is fighting off a bug. Let her rest and don't worry. If this continues for weeks, then take her to the doctor. For now, just accept that she's tired and know she will get better.

All of us feel better some days than others. I've learned for myself that when I'm tired and need more sleep that I need to get more sleep or I will most likely come down with a cold or the flu.

A., Not sure if you solved this yet, but have you tried gripe water? It really does help with stomach problems. Also I would do massage on her stomach/ intestines. You can do a search for "infant massage techniques" and find plenty of info. This to is very beneficial for eliminating stomach gas and irritations.
Good luck!

It probably still is teething. I think the irritation for them comes before we can see redness or puffiness in their gums. My kids both have all their teeth now, and EVERY time they acted a little "off"....especially regarding their sleep....a tooth appeared within the next few weeks.

Obviously I'm not a doctor, so if it persists and your 'motherly instinct' is still causing you to be worried, definitely make an appointment to rule out anything that needs attention. Good luck!

My guess is if she isnt actually teething that she is probably going thru a growth spurt. I think we mommies sometimes over look this because they grow so fast and we see them all day long so we tend to miss it

If she doesnt have a fever it's probably not anything major. Like the other moms said she might be getting ready to cut a tooth so she may have a little inner pain that is not visible to you. Just keep her comforted and let her tell you how she wants to eat and sleep. If it persists for another 2 or 3 days you may want to take her in and have her checked out.... but she may have just had a growth spurt and is worn out from it, along with a bit of growing pains that can accompany the spurt. Keep her comfy.

Hi! Sounds like she may be teething. Has she had a mild fever or change in drooling/sucking on things, or a change in her bowel movements? Teething caused fever and diarrhea in all three of my children, not to mention disrupted their sleep and made them grumpy. I would try some baby orajel and see if she perks up. If she does, then there is your answer. They usually get their bottom middle front teeth first. :)

It could still be teething, all of my guys seemed to get so miserable for days before there was anything noticeable and then suddenly it was noticeable that a tooth was coming. Other Mom's have also pointed out growth spurts are big work for their little bodies! If she is taking bottles and there aren't any other weird symptoms I would let her have her rest and just keep your eye on her. Fell better soon.

Was she very active and happy baby before this? It might be because of various reasons like teething etc. Here's my expereince... My son did the same ... all of a sudden he was dull and tired and also very cranky because he wouldnt sleep very well.I simply took him to the doc because I wasn't sure what was bothering him and he tested positive for strep throat. No way I could have guessed that, I was thinking his tummy hurts or something! I was glad I took him in before he started to refuse to eat anything. That really helped as he was put on antibiotics.
As I said your daughter could just be teething, but do call a doc/nurse and talk to her because there are so many illnesses going around.
