I want to use a baby sling with my baby to be born in June. Do any of you have suggestions as to a brand. Have you used Hotslings? Good experience? Not so good?

Thank you all!
J.

So What Happened?

I bought the Hotsling and think I will love it. My husband came home and I was wearing it with a teddy bear in it. He just laughed at me for being a psycho new mommy. This should work well! Thank you all for your suggestions!

I bought a Mamma's Milk sling - my daughter is six months old and she still uses it. Plus it's very comfortable compared to some of the other slings I tried. What I really loved is that she can use it up to a year. The website is www.mammasmilk.com. The one I got was $50 - it's cotton and really great. They also have silk ones for $75 I think....

Congratulations!!
I LOVE-LOVE my Hotsling!!! It's wonderful!! I used it with my first daughter until she was almost a year old...and now I'm using it with my new daughter (born 4/24/07). It's great because it has no rings, buckles or that long extra fabric hanging off. I also have a Mei Tai that I still use for my 3 year old. I can wear her on my back or on the front and it distributes the weight nicely. I love having the ability to have both my hands free or nurse discreetly anywhere.
I got mine at chickabeez.com Janet is the owner and wonderful...
Good luck!

Hi Jodi

I too am expecting my first any day now---and did tons of research into baby slings. My doula partner has used slings for all her kids and teaches some basic baby wearing …so I really questioned her and tried all hers. What I ended up with are the Hotsling and a Kozy Carrier ( mei tei type.)
I also am a part of the Mothering Magazine forums and they have a whole section on baby wearing—with lots of reviews and opinions---and these two slings along with the Ergo are the ones that are raved about. Seems the most variety of people find that each of these works best.
So—that’s just what I have learned in all my research---and I am looking forward to being a sling carrying mama!

Congratulations! You may want to check out www.thebabywearer.com My son is 10 weeks old. He totally freaked out when I tried the hotsling. I think that it is going to work better for him when he is a little older. But, I have seen babies that love it. Hotslings are sized for your body, not the baby. I had to exchange my sling twice before I got the right one. I've lost 30 pounds since my birth. I'm hoping that it will still work later on down the road. The baby's bottom should not fall below your belly button. I think that the positioning is limited for newborns and it limited my range of movement in my shoulder. I tried the Moby wrap. www.mobywrap.com and this was a Godsend for a newborn. I also have a Bjorn. I felt like I was harnessed in like a horse and all of the straps were a total pain. As my baby gets older I am going to try my hotsling again and also get a mei tei. The mei tei looks great. I was able to try out a bunch of slings from the ladies in my local La Leche League. You might benefit from going to a LLL meeting and talking to some of the women there. I'm sure that they would let you try out some of their slings and give you advice before you decide what to buy. Also, a ringsling would give you the pouch like a hotsling, but it would be adjustable.

I had my last two very close together and let me tell you, I would not have lived without my sling!!! I did attachment parenting with my last child and wouldn't trade the bond we have for the world!!!

I used the over the should baby holder. It can be used all the way up to the toddler years. Here is the link:

http://www.slingbaby.com/

I have had many other slings/carriers, but this one worked the best for me because I have a very bad lower back...it never once bothered it!!! I highly recommend it...

Here is a review on the sling:

I hope this helps and congrats on your little one!!!

I loved my hotsling! The only thing is that I got mine a bit to small so I could only use it for a short time, since my son was a bit bigger. Congrats on the new baby!!

I have tried several slings and the "ring slings" type seem to be the best. They are comfortable, adjustable, and they grow with your kid. I had a nojo sling for my daughter and hated it. The material was hot, the padded rails folded over her and were suffocating and she was just miserable. It didn't work for her until she got a little bigger and even then it was only bearable. I borrowed my friend's ring sling and LOVED it. I could breastfeed easily, was never worried about her rolling out of it if i changed positions and she was never happier. I'm expecting my third in July and I bought a maya sling from the slingstation.com and I love it. My daughter is two now and I can put her in it on my hip or my back and it adjust big enough yhat my husband can wear it too which is nice since we are VERY different sizes. Hotslings are fashionable, but I don't think they are very functional. Sizing is hard since they aren't adjustable, dad can't wear it and misses out on the bonding it baby wearing brings. But they are cute.

OH My Goodness I LOVE MY HOTSLING and Hotsling Pool Side Pouch, and My Ultimate Baby Wrap, I could not go a day without either. The Pool Side Pouch (hotsling) lets me take a shower, go for a dip in the pool or even a walk and know that my baby is safe, it's UV ray protectant, The hotsling (regular) is GREAT for errands day or shopping in the mall, going to the bank, or grocery store, and at home when it's clean up time OMG or when we are going out to dinner I can nurse him and NO BODY can see what's going on ... check them out I got mine at The Nesting Place ... my son and I work there now and we use them all day to work in too! My life with him has not been the same since :) You will be pleased with either choice and some moms like me get BOTH!! Good Luck and we hope to see you there You Can't Live With Out at least One!!!

I loved my baby slings and used one for all 6 of my kids! The ones I liked were very simple. I used the NoJo, see an example at: (http://www.babyuniverse.com/pro/baby/7976/OriginalBabySli.... I could use it with them laying down or sitting up. I liked that it didn't have extra built in padding so I could work with it more. I could have them in a more upright position and just gather the extra material behind their back and wrap a rubber band around the material to make it tighter. When they were newborn I would tuck their feet inside the sling so they were in a fetal position. As they grew, I no longer needed the rubber band. I could leave it like it was and have them in a cradle position. I nursed discretely in them and could wear it on either shoulder for switching sides. I'm not familiar with Hotslings so I can't tell you about those. You can look at the NoJo and see how they compare. I work in childcare now and everytime I am holding an infant I wish I had a sling. My "baby" is 5 now so I haven't used slings in a while. I loved them though!
