At&t Uverse

I am with Time Warner for the works. I pay around 200 every single month for 3 cable boxes, all DVRs, telephone, and internet. I'm sick to death of the cost. The customer service has been fine until tonight.

I received a letter saying that I can end my contract with them on March 26 and that if I do nothing I will be back under contract with them for another 15 months automatically. I called to ask questions about exactly when I am paid up til so that I could figure out when I could switch, if I decide to. I want to look at UVERSE. So this woman tried to tell me that I am stuck with them until next year because I just started a new contract with them in December. I told her she was absolutely false. I didn't move, start anything new and have not been on the phone with them. She said I did and I remembered that one of their boxes went out. We exchanged their dead equipment. I didn't sign anything or talk to anyone. The bill is in my name and my daughter made the switch. There is NO WAY I am going to let them bully me into a 250 dollar cancellation fee and now I don't know if I want their service no matter what!

Does anyone here in Kansas City have UVERSE? How is it? How is their cable? Have you had both? Which is better?

thanks
S.

I recently checked into UVerse. I currently have DirecTV for satellite, Comcast for internet and ATT for home phone. I pay about $110 for satellite because we have 1 dvr + 3 other boxes and lots of channels. We pay $40 for internet and $40 for phone. If I chose the basics I would save a lot of money. I previously had Time Warner for cable but moved to Raytown and had to go with Comcast. Their customer service was great but we had problems with the actual service because my dogs kept digging up the lines in our backyard. They wouldn't bury them deep enough and I wasn't allowed to do it so we switched to satellite. I really like DirecTV and haven't had very many problems with bad reception in inclement weather. The only problem we have had is the memory going out in our dvr so we have to get another box and we lose any shows that we have in the dvr list and in the prioritizer. We are thinking about switching back to cable because I think Comcast cable will be less expensive than satellite and I think we can get a package deal for having the internet. When my son (a tech geek) checked into UVerse he said that the internet speed would be slower unless we wanted to pay roughly double and that the cable part would be about the same as our current rates. He checked some reviews and found several customers that weren't happy because if you are recording multiple shows in one room then all of the other boxes have to be on the same show. You can google "at&t uverse reviews" and see what others think about the service - pros and cons included.

Between Uverse, Dish Network & Time Warner, they are all just about the same in service and what they provide... It is a matter of what you want to spend.

Our household has the following and we really pay a lot less than the bundled packages! We have Dish Network for our TV and it is $30.00 a month for the base pkg with one dvr box and five tv's hooked up. Then we have RR for our internet and it is running us $19.99 a month right now and that is with the one level from the top on speed. We do not have a house phone anymore but we do have Sprint for our cell phones...

So DEFINITELY shop around and get what is right for you and your budget and do not be afraid to not have a bundle with one carrier!

BTW - Uversse is good too, as my parents have them and when I am over there, it is always good service. So it is just a matter of what you want to pay and what type of contract you want to lock into.

Just had to chime in about my daughter's Time Warner experience. She moved to a home in the same city, but the area didn't have Time Warner, they were going to charge her a $250 cancellation fee, she made several phone calls and finally got them to lower the amount (can't remember how much) she had never renewed a contract either, you just get a letter stating that if you don't call you will automatically be renewed. I don't know what they think you'll do if you move, especially if you can't get their service at a new place, not fair!

I had Uverse in Olathe and loved it. Moved to KC and they didn't have it in my area. Finally got it about a year after moving to KC. I had problems with it. But things were going well. Then I made a payment online, Uverse has you pay internet and TV seperate from the phone. So went to make the other payment. They credited my phone account with both payments. I come home and find that I have no internet or TV. 4 days of calls I come to find out that they put me on the list that is not allowed to have Uverse in my name anymore. The district office even called me to apologize since they have NO way of removing me from the wrong list. Then months later I get a bill from them because they had returned my money to me but then said I owed it back to them. I was NOT happy. I was also paying about 180 bucks a month for my Uverse services. I switched back to Time Warner and I pay 111 a month for all. Now I hear that TW will raise my bill 3 dollars every month after my 15 months is up. I plan on cancelling my service and then starting it up again....or switching to something else...not sure what I am going to do. But will not be using Uverse again.
