Hey Moms,
Does anyone have laminate flooring in your homes? What type of experience have you had with them? Do they scratch easily, are they noisy? I'm trying to do as much research as possible before I part with my dearly beloved linoleum kitchen floor. Trying to decide if we should go the hardwood or laminate route. Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Have you considered tile? My husband is the owner of Moxley Building & Remodeling and he does an amazing job with tile work! I have tile in my kitchen and love it! Try him out: ###-###-####. He also installs hard woods and laminate...

I'm getting laminate installed soon & my salesman told me it's more durable than hardwood. I did research on the internet and found the same info. Hardwood can dent & scratch easier than laminate. For the noise I heard if you put some type of product underneath it reduces the noise. I hope we like it since we're having a majority of our house done in laminate! L.

Definitely go with the laminate! Hardwood can scratch and dent; laminate does not. I love mine (I have had it for six months now); much much better than my former linoleum! I agree with the streaking that one of the other posters mentioned. Good luck!

Hi K., I don't have laminate, but my Grandma does and she loves it. She got the one that looks like wood and for the most part it's hard to tell that it's not real wood. She says that she wishes she could have always had this in her house since it looks nice and is so easy to clean. She didn't want hard wood because she couldn't mop it like she wants to and the laminate she can. She has one of those steam mops and uses that on her laminate all the time. She has 2 little dogs and "grand-dogs" that come to visit and no scratches. Plus lots of kids that are all over it. Good luck! and God Bless!!

We enjoy the wood laminate in our kitchen. It has not scratched for us - and I have two sons and a daycare. It cleans very easily and always looks nice and shiny. I would not say it's noisy; but it probably is noisier than other floorings. It's like wood. My six-year old loves to practice his tap dancing on it. And all of the kids love to run their toy trucks across it, so that does make a little more noise. LOL

As for cleaning, we either use dishsoap and water or a Shark mop. They both work very well.

We have laminate and love it. It does not dent and I don't think we have had any scratches either. I would say my only complaint is cleaning it. I use vinegar and water as that is the only thing I have found that doesn't streak. I find it a bit tedious, but less headache than getting angry if someone dented my real hardwood floors. Ours do not make any noise...they are about 3 years old.

K.,

My parents have the wood laminate and they love it. The only bad thing I can say about it is that if you spill something like flour on it, it makes it really slick. The floor has held up nicely to 3 grandkids and one granddog. This floor can also have a heating thing put under it to make it more comfy. I would go with this floor it will last for years and 1/2 the price of real wood. As far as noise theirs is about 12-15 years old and it sill doesn't make any noise like a real hardwood floor would.

My parents have wood laminate on the floor at their lake house. Some water got left on it for an extended period of time, and there's a bubble where the water was. So, don't get it wet. Otherwise, it's ok.

I had laminate in my previous house. Loved all but cleaning it. It streaked easily, so I mopped and dried it on my hands and knees. In this house we went with a vinyl floor that looks like wood, even has grooves. It's layed in strips around the same size as wood strips. We got it at Carpet One. I absolutely love it.

We put down laminate in our entire house. Its okay but I wish we had not gotten the cheapest brand. It has not held up as well as the floor my in-laws have. When we build our new house we are getting bamboo flooring. It is water proof, insulating and durable.

I have Pergo in my front room, kitchen and dining room, and I agree with everyone that it is very durable. We have pets that occasionally have an "accident" and it cleans up very well. The only thing I don't like is that it really needs frequent mopping to look its best and with as much as I have in the house it is time-consuming. I use the Clorox mopping system to clean it.

My mom has a Prego floor and loves it. It looks like wood but, it isn't. It holds up much better than wood.
