Anyone Try "Book of the Month Club"??? (For Kids)

I did not like it because they send you the book of the month starting out once a month and then it becomes three weeks or sooner. If you don't take the time to fill out the slip then you automatically get the book. It has been a while for me and things may have changed since then.

It's been many years since I did Children's Book of the Month Club, things may have changed. Overall I would give it a 7 out of 10. I liked that they didn't charge an extreme amount for shipping and handling. If I had purchased all the books I received at a bookstore, they would have cost quite a bit more. I like that you can get a lot of books and the free gift up front at this time of year for gifts and then be able to "pay" (making your fullfillment with full price items) later. I didn't like the fact that there wasn't equal spacing between books. It seemed like some would come every 3 weeks and some every 5.

I agree that they seemed to send the books more frequently than once a month. It was indeed more like every 3 weeks, so they get to make more sales that you have to pay for. I rarely had time to review their pending selections before I received them, and often found that the selections were not the greatest. I stopped after about 9 mos and will never do it again.

Now I either just go to a bookstore, or order from Scholastic Books, throu my son's preschool.

I used it with my oldest (now 17) for a year and he got a bunch of awesome books that were well loved. Signed our older daughter up when she was born (now 32 months) and found it to be confusing regarding which books were being sent and when. Things just didn't match up and I was getting books every few weeks and notices at least weekly (email and mail... and they were never the same). It was a mess, so we stopped after two months.

Yes but the books are always like5 dollars or cheap but the shipping is outrageous!! i would pay like 2.99 for each book but have to pay around 25 dollars for them to ship me simple books. I say bad.

I have three "Book of the month club" accounts--they are the same root club, but I have three accounts to maintain (membership fulfillment, done, Featured Selection cancellations--still have to send some more back that I forgot about). I am with the Children's Book of the Month Club, Homestyle Books, and Rhapsody Book Club (yes, romance novels, my deeply secret sick or bad pregnant day indulgence). I haven't had bad experiences with those so far. I like that with the Children's book club you often get shipping for $2.49 for purchases of $25. They have a decent variety of books and the copies are good quality. I have gotten a lot of gift books that way. I am indifferent to the Homestyle book club but have sadly gotten to enjoy romance novels a bit and enjoy getting those on good sales, too.

Now, that said (or rather written), I'm not sure if that is what you mean. If you are asking about something where a child gets a specific book every month like a magazine, I have no idea. You could do a kids' magazine subscription, such as Highlights, Babybug, or the kids' versions of National Geographic and the like. Those tend to be pretty good.

They send you a book every month, their pick. Although I admit that they did send really cute books (you fill out a thing that tells them a lil' about your child) but I felt like it was such a hassle and ended up costing me more money than I cared to spend because if you don't return the slip then the book gets sent, then once you get the book(s) you have a few days to send it back if not you have to pay for them. If I remember correctly it was around $20 bucks per shipment. I found it easier to just go to the book store and purchase a few books every now and then although now my son is in pre-school and I just order books through the school. (schoolastic)
