Anyone Have Luck with Homeopathic Treatment for Allergies?

My son has terrible allergies, especially right now with the wind and blooming trees. His allergist had him on 3 medications at one point and it really didn't help. I'm looking to try something else and though maybe someone had a great home or herbal remedy that has worked for their kids or even a prescription that helped. Allergy shots may be the next step, but I'd really like to avoid that if I can.

What can I do next?

The closest thing that we use to homeopathic treatment is using tea tree oil for excema (severe), but mainly we use sensitive washing powder, non soap-based soaps for washing hands and aloe vera tissues.

As for hayfever type things, I have been advised that polaramine is also good.

Hope it helps.

My son is also allergic and sneezing his head off a lot. We are on medication, but we also use a nasal rinse. You can get the bottle with the adult packets of saline at walmart or walgreens, but I had to special order the pediatric size saline packets. My son is 9 but even my 7 year old has done it. It's made by NeilMed. It's a little gross, but it works. Even I use it when I get stuffy.

My sister who is a nurse and her entire family has terrible allergies was telling about a new treatment for allergies that just got cleared through the FDA. It is laser type treatment on the fingers. you get 12 treatments one a month for a year but everyone who has had it done is either 100% cured of all allergies or pretty close. It is $100 a month through her chiropractor but actual saves her money from all the meds. It is pain free. Also it is way more effective at diagnosing the allergies then the poking test or the chemical test. Since it has just been approved by the FDA you can only get it at homeopathic doctors & chiropractor. Here is a link to an article about it http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1490566/does_las...

If you live in the Phoenix area, I have an amazing Naturopathic doctor that does allergy testing and treatment....no medicine! Her name is Dr. Orona and she specializes in women and children. I was very sceptical, but brought two of my kids in to her and they are better now. Check out her website 4wecare.com

Hi. I am so sorry about the allergy issues. My husband has tried a lot of different medicines and we finally found one that worked! It's in the organic/natural aisle in Safeway. Nelsons Allergy & Hayfever (homeopathic). I think it costs $9 for a bottle of 84 pills. They are in a "clikpak" bottle so they are small and could fit easily into a pocket. I read the back of the box and it gives directions for adults/children dosage. Like I said, we have tried over the counter, other homeopathics, Neti pots, etc.. this is the only thing that seems to work. May I give you another bit of advice? If you purchase a box and it works, I would suggest buying two boxes at a time. They seem to be very popular and understocked. We went for 2 weeks without some and my husband got very grouchy!! I went to 3 other Safeways and other miscellaneous stores to find it. I hope this helps.

Local honey is great for allergies. If that is not available to you there are other herbal alternatives. Una de Gato is an herb from the Amazon rainforest that is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Camu camu is a fruit from the rainforest with the highest naturally occurring concentration of bio-available vitamin C. Both work great for allergy symptoms. Feel free to contact me with questions or check them out on my website: www.shootingstarherbs.amazonherb.net.

Hi D.. I suffered from extremely severe hayfever for over twenty years. I had every medication going. I went through six years of allergy shots and in the end i just gave up and just about stayed indoors as much as possible through the season. I had trained as a nurse and got a job at a doctors office who practiced conventional medicine but who was also very interested in accupuncture. I helped him with his accupuncture clinic for people who wanted to stop smoking, lose weight, had pain etc. One day i was so bad with hayfever i could hardly breathe, my eys were almost swollen shut and i used to get blisters on the inside of my eyelids. He asked me would i like to try accupuncture. At the time i didn't realise it could be used for this but i was willing to try anything. He did one session on me and i must admit that i thought i was going to have to go to the hospital that night as i could not stop sneezing and coughing, but gradually through the evening it abated and i can say with hand on heart that i have not suffered with hayfever or the allergies that went along with it ever since. It has been twenty years since i had that one session and i am just grateful that my doctor wanted to try me out as a guinea pig. Give it a try. The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work for your son. The best is that it does work and you don't have to put any more chemicals in his body.

Good Luck. S..

My daughter had allergies that ran the full list, after a study done in Denver. She wanted a kitten very much, and of course, she was allergic to cats as well.
We lived in Sedona and had a wealth of informed resources for alternatives to medications.

A WHEAT-free and DAIRY-free diet did the trick. She wanted the kitten so badly that she really stuck with it.
Whenever she lapsed on either of these, she immediately got stuffy and had trouble breathing.
After about 2 mos. some kittens came available. We picked one out with the understanding that if she had a reaction, we'd have to bring him back.(I also never fed the cat fish, which seemed to help. I have no idea why.)

My "little girl" is now 32 and Friskers has gone to kitty Heaven after 18 yrs. so the no wheat or dairy diet worked very well for her. My daughter is still smart about a healthy diet; cheese or wheat will still make her sniffy, but she's in excellent health, very trim and active.
Also, we were told that some of the allergy medicines aggravate the mucus lining and cause as much congestion as they "cure". I'll try to find out what she takes for an emergency decongestant. She found one that is gentle on her system. She's on a business trip, so I'll get back to you on this.

Hi D. -

My husband had really bad allergies as well and was doing the shot. My sister told us about Monavie and all of its natural anti-inflamatories - its a juice with 19 fruits and that's it! Now we take 2, 2 oz. shots a day and that's equivalent to 13 servings of fruit and vegetables a day - my husband has not had to take his inhaler in 7 months and his allergies are so much better. I did a lot of research on acai products and natural juices. What I found was that they had caffeine, xantham gum as a preservative, and other stuff that I didn't want. So I did research on Monavie and found that it is patented and is the only nutritional bevergae that has ever been published in a medical journal. I was so impressed that it's a daily part of our everyday lives now. I highly recommend it. Here is a website that you can check out: www.mymonavie.com/lauracooper

Good luck!

I have had incredible luck with homeopathic treatment for my allergies. Our homeopath has helped me and my son with many things over the past year. I strongly advise that you find an experienced homeopath who can take your son's case and give you the best remedy for him. Homeopathy is very individualized and what works well for one person may not work at all for another. That doesn't mean homeopathy doesn't work - it means you have the wrong remedy!

You can find homeopaths in your area here http://www.hpathy.com/dirhomeopath/homeopaths.asp I HIGHLY recommend it. I've never felt better and I used to be on daily medication. The reg. doc had just put my son on daily meds when we started seeing our homeopath a year ago (and they weren't working) and our our homeopath had his allergy problems solved within a day.

The only thing that has helped me is raw honey from a local source and take it several times a day (a heaping tsp). Also, making a tea of nettle and dandelion is extremely beneficial. You should do that with the honey a couple times a day in addition to just taking some honey by itself. If a cough develops simmer on very low heat (about 20-min) some crushed garlic cloves in a little olive oil and apply it to the bottoms of the feet. The feet carry it directly to the lungs and help them clear out. The honey and tea treatment help a lot but it takes time to get in the system and work. Rubbing raw shea butter in the nose helps ease congestion. I would also do sudafed on days when the symptoms are really uncomfortable. Hope this is helpful.

Talkk to a local bee keeper. Giving your son honey that is made locally. it contains all the local allergens in small doses, just like allergy shots. you can also get pollen from most beekeepers in the spring. you can take the pollen in pill form. i have used honey and pollen and they work much better than any allergy medication i've tried. good luck.

We've been through two painful rounds of testing to find out the specifics of my son's allergies (none are to food or animals.) We've been through two years of shots, and tried MANY type of pills. I also would love anything homeopathic, but had no luck. He ended up on Lodraine, which we will shortly have to cease taking, because my husband lost his job and our insurance (COBRA is just WAY too expensive when you are unemployed.) We took my son off the shots after two years, because that wasn't doing ANYTHING for him. So, we'll be back on OTC Alavert. He has to take them twice a day, but when he does, he has relief. Lodraine works far better, for only once a day, but is WAY too expensive. I hope you get some good suggestions, and I hope Mamasource posts the suggestions so I can read them, too!

I so understand your situation. Our allergist in CA wanted to do allergy shots on my 18 month old- no way:) So we turned to homeopathy. We found Histamine in a 6c worked great for her as well as probiotics and quercetin. When we moved back to AZ we found a homeopath/nutritionist that helped her so much. She was allergic to the sand at the park, trees, windy days, our cats and dogs. Now she has no environmental allergies at all. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and she is fine.
A friend of mine had the same situation with her boys and started seeing my homeopath- she is amazed her boys have survived the winter months and all this wind with no problem.
It is truly amazing what their little bodies can do to heal themselves with the right treatment. I live in the north scottsdale area and my friend lives in the chandler area and we both drive to see the homeopath in north north scottsdale- she is so worth it. She would allow you to talk over the phone first before you decide if you want to meet her in person or not. You can reach me at ###-###-#### if you would like her website and her number.
Best of luck to you:)

I know you already got your responses, but I wanted to mention that homeopaths are not yet doctors. That's not a bad thing, however. We see a homeopath for issues and my sons have responded quite well.

Look for someone with the CCH designation. They practice classical homeopathy and have advanced training which is needed in treating allergies. Naturopathic doctors can do homeopathy, but lack the classical training in this particular area.

The American College of Homeopathy is in Phoenix off of Camelback just east of I17. They have offices there with many practicing homeopaths.
Good luck!

My son also had bad allergies when he was young. Had to resort to steroids which scared me. A friend told me try getting raw honey from around our area ( 50 mile radius) and have him take a tablespoon or two a day. We were lucky enough to have a person with bee hives where we could get honeycomb. After eating the honey for a while his allergies cleared up. Might be something you could try if honey is available. Good luck!

My daughter just recently started seeing a naturopathic doctor for the allergies that she has been suffering from for the past 2 years. She is in college and had to leave class because her cough was so distracting. After a month, her cough is gone and her digestive system is almost completely back to normal. She had so much inflammation in her system that her digestive system was not working and all the allergy meds were just making her system more ineffective. My daughter is in TX so I can't refer you to her doctor, but I would definitely look into a naturopathic doctor. Instead of treating the symptoms, they look to eliminate the cause. We are so thankful!

Hi D.,

I had the same problem last spring with my son, then 4 yrs old. As per my ped, he was on several allergy meds plus inhalers, the whole gamut. Certain meds he was on had side affects, so I decided to see a naturopathic Dr. And while it was not cheap (insurance does not cover it) it has been a life saver!! He has not had any problems with allergies since. If you are interested I can send you the Dr's info - he is in Scottsdale. Anyway, I know what you are going through and I wish you and your son the best!

we use bee pollen and Propolis plus (both bee products) and have replaced all of our inhalers with eucalyptus oil. They say not to use be products if you're allergic to bees. I am allergic to bee stings but am very able to take these products. However, I think your children must be able to swallow supplements. I don't think they come in chewable form but you could google it. K.

Hi D., For relief, I give my kids the Nettles & Eyebright allergy and respiratory support from Herbs for Kids. Once you get through this seaso, I would recommend picking up some localized bee polen granules and start giving them to your child each day. You start out slow with just one or two granules and work your way up to ?? Not sure how old your son is, so you should ask the nature store when you pick these up. The bee polen will boost his immune system and will not have allergy problems for the next 6-7 years if you do this. It has worked great for me and my family. T.

I don't know anything about homeopathics for allergies, but one natural remedy that I've heard often is the consumption of raw, local honey - the pollen in the honey is supposed to desensitize the allergies. It needs to be local so that the pollen matches your atmospheric pollens, and it needs to be raw so that the beneficial properties haven't been destroyed by pasteurization. Good luck!!
