OK so I'm at work sitting at my desk wishing instead of the veggie egg white ommlette I got this am at work that I had gotten something sweet. A danish filled with yummy goodness perhaps? You know that cheese that's somehow greasy looking and must be imitation cheese but somehow tasted like perfection with milk and then later settles into your stomach like a lump of coal. That odd "cheese" that somehow stays good out of the fridge? It's like the yahoo chocolate milk of cheese. Yes that's what I want!
After wishing and hoping I had gotten that I am filled with sadness. I want to go home under a blanket and read a book through tears. Watch a girly movie and weep and cuddle with some living, breathing object. My boyfriend's not a cuddler and not home so I'd take a homeless person or some strange person's cat if need be. Yes I'd like to be a weeping cuddling cat lady eating some odd wet looking gooey cheese filled pastry!
YUP I have PMS! Booooo
Anyone have any remedies? Anyone else on the magic bus to crazy this morning too?
I should send my boyfriend a warning message. There should infact be something similar to those televised alarms that used to go across the tv for when your signifigant other has PMS (we should get a man cold warning J. the same) I feel his phone right now should have those rainbow bars scrolling across with that odd static noise and the warning "warning there is a front of crazy coming in! It can not be controlled. Take cover and protection by going to the nearest store and buying chocolate, and tissues and be prepared to hug"

hmmm i should make an app for that=)

So ladies what do you do to delay or deter the crazy?
How does it affect you?
guys what do you do to make it through this time?
I feel like this is a monthyl question for M.? Have I asked this before and does PMS make M. get posting amnesia too?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Clarifiedmom-I'm so sorry you have PMDD, but if you do look up PMS it is what I describe in varying degrees. It says its symptoms that come during this phase in the cycle monthly and affect life emotionanlly or physically and says the more severe cases are PMDD I wouldn't make light of pmdd at all. Sorry you have it. I hope you find something that works=(
Riley I AGREE! Even if I don't think I want to partake in that activity this time of the month I know it does help and do! plus even if it's not a cure---having that feeling takes away all else!!
Nikki, I respect your thinking but think ignoring the fact that yes we sometimes are emotional or moody during certain times of the month because of hormones is like pretending we're not women, or thinking its wrong. Its biological that hormones change and can make you sad during that time. 4-5 days before my period I get this way each month. Everyone gets varying degrees- before I had my daughter it didn't affect M. at all, but now it does. For M. its no too bad. I don't get mean, I J. get bummed and want odd things like danishes

I can't make it go away. It affects M. and my family quite seriously. This may sound PMSing-ish, but for M., it's not cute. It's a very serious, and almost debilitating condition. PMS or PMDD is not comprised of eating a bunch of chocolate, crying, and going off on people. I would happily take that instead of the hell I have to go through every month.

EDIT: I know you're trying to be light-hearted about it, but it's kind of like when people say, "Oh, you're so bipolar.' Or, "I must have OCD since I like order." People with bi-polar disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder usually don't like that joke. :-)

It's a weird thing and may not apply to everyone: orgasms.

A couple orgasms = no food cravings, no tears, no mood swings. J. energetic happy

No orgasms = PMS campy moody feed M. blahs

Again this is for M.... Don't know if it works for others.

Someone once told M.; When you're craving chocolate you're actually craving sex. At least in my experience, that's been dead on. Added bene? Sex is not only calorie free, but burns them.

All I have to say is enjoy it.

Soon y'all will be perimenopausal like M. where you're a Hormonal Holocaust EVERYDAY with no relief in sight! Least now you have a pretty good idea on what day your head's gonna start spinning around and on what day your family can come out of hiding.

I'm such an unpredictable FREAK I completely suprise mySELF with my own reaction to things. I might J. spontaneously combust without warning.

:(

I get PMS bad too. Most times I don't realize it until I catch myself getting really irritated with my husband and daughter which leads M. to look at the calendar and then I know what it is. When I have PMS I can't concentrate on more than one thing at a time and I have a really hard time focusing. I can almost feel steam coming out of my ears if my husband and daughter try talking to M. at the same time because I can't deal with it. Most of the time when I have PMS I don't want anything to do with cuddling - I J. want to be left completely alone by everyone. Some months I find that I'm more of a crybaby and other months I'm J. more grumpy and impatient.

My doctor recommended taking St. Jon's Wort and I have some, but I never remember to take it. Sorry, I don't have any other advice.

Right there with you! I let myself eat whatever I want for at least the worst day -- usually it's an entire bag of Doritos with an entire jar of nacho cheese over the course of the day. Or McDonalds!

The worst day my friends and I have termed "the day of blind rage." The day you are so violently angry at all humanity for even existing.

And, I do give my husband a two-day warning so he is aware I might be making some irrational claims in the coming days!

oh, the joys of being a woman... and from all I've heard it only gets more fun w/ menopause. so not fair. my pms is SO much worse after having had my son. I never really had much in the way of mood swings or the classic symptoms. Now, watch out. The day before mine comes, take cover. I J. get to feeling like I want to pull everyone's head off that comes across my path. I get so emotional, usually have some sort of a meltdown. Then I'm usually OK. Give M. some chocolate and sweet stuff and I'm good to go :) My husband J. knows, he leaves M. alone and is super nice to M.. Makes sure I have wine and chocolate in the house.

I find sit ups help during cramps. Exercise releases endorphins that works much faster then pain reliver. Luckily my period is always very short (like 2-4 days) and light. Oh and clarifiedmom I have OCD (not as dilbelitating as some, mine is everythign has to be divisiable by three and everything has to be symetrical, Seriously if i wore socks that don't match I would think that something horriable is going to happen.) and i don't really care when people joke about having it. Its better then when people claim its not a real illness (like alot of people do with most mental illness.)

I post this all the time, but calcium, b-complex vitamins, and magnesium are the only things that keep M. sane. They really do make a difference. I take them every day, and now I can't even tell when I'm going to start my period unless I look at a calendar. I used to be a beast!

Hugs to you. I hope you get some relief.

That sounds about right. I live with three males. And they all usually get yelled at by the time I start. They J. look at M.. My husband can usually figure out what's going on before I do but my poor boys are not a clue. They are too young. And some months are wost than others. I think your alert idea is geanous!!!! I think all men would get it. :) When I know I am like that I usually will give into my food craving. Of corse mine is usually chocolate or something like that.

Hope your day and week get better!

It sounds simple but the best thing I do is stay diligent with a good b-complex and EFA's (essential fatty acids).

ooh, honey, you got it BAD! Good luck and may everyone in your life survive the day :)

As for M., I circle the projected start of my cycle on the family calendar in a big circle with neon green marker followed by neon red marker followed by neon blue marker so my DH will know beyond a shadow of a doubt what is going on.

I find that hitting the gym helps my PMS - I have gone twice in one day and J. hit up the eliptical (sp) machine for 30. The work out seems to help with the cramps - the cravings - the irritability and Oh Yeah! Self Esteem. So, I suggest you hit the gym or if you are lucky enough to have your own equipment - warn your man to leave you alone until you have worked out.

Honestly, when I have PMS, I do let myself endulge in what my body is craving. It's usually sweets when I have PMS. I don't binge or anything, but I will stop at Walgreen's and get a Dove chocolate bar or something.

Also, I don't feel that bad for my husband when I have PMS. I certainly don't perpetuate the stigma that women have of being on a mood cycle (I hate it when people think women are PMSing J. because they are having an emotion) by calling myself "crazy" during that time. I know you're doing it in a light-hearted way, so I don't mean to come across as harsh, but I try to keep those kinds of "confessions" to a minimum because our bodies simply have different needs during that time of the month. Give in to it and pamper yourself a little bit more (and keep up with your vites like Angela said), but don't demean yourself for being a woman, society does enough of that for you.

I like to take hot bubble baths and drink wine when I'm PMSing. It makes M. feel sexy. :) Hope you feel better!

ETA: I 100% agree with ClarifiedMom. PMS for M. is pure hell. And you must have mis-interpreted my response, because I never, ever said to ignore your PMS. I J. think that announcing it to the world gives the world open permission to slap you with the PMS stigma that women have. It's like society has taken away our right to be legitimately emotional. Men & women alike do this. I certainly don't think women should do it to themselves! But again, I know you meant this as a light-hearted post, so I'm not intending to get heated about it. I still think you should indulge in your cheese danish!!! :)

Thankfully I don't get it... I have no signs other then hopefully wiping and seeing it at home instead of out in public and all the sudden I need buy new pants or have a sweat shirt I can wrap around my waist... although some warning signs would be nice since I dont' have a regular cycle!

thank you for the great laugh! Im sure some men ( and children) would love the alert messages!

Calcium (like cheese or ice cream) and a walk - even taking the longest way possible to deliver something to another coworker - can help.
