Afternoon Date Ideas

Hi Mamas, my hubby and I don't have a babysitter so we're going to spend the day together on our anniversary while he's in preschool instead of doing an evening date. The thing is, we don't have many ideas of what to do except lunch and a movie which sounds kind of lame and ho-hum. Any ideas for an afternoon date that is a little more special? Thanks!

Maybe go Christmas shopping together, or to a museum of mutual interest, coffee shop, bowling, ride bikes--depends on what you are interested in.

First of all, pick a good funny movie and a good restaurant, and it doesn't matter where the sun is! Get a car service (less than $100) to pick you up at home and take you to a nice lunch with wine and spirits. Then, enjoy the sunshine while walking to the movie theater. It's amazing how sexy I can feel when I don't have to drive, when we can sit in back holding hands and gazing at each other.

Sometimes my husband and I make a date out of ordering an On Demand (free through the TV) movie and watching the whole thing at once.

What about a picnic and a walk through a nice park or something? My hubby and I love to go out Christmas shopping together in the afternoons, but we both enjoy shopping. We also like to sit outside at like a little cafe and just people watch. Lol, typing this I just realized we are pretty boring :)

Art galleries, museums, day spa for two, the movies are nice too, or go to some scenic place with a picnic lunch.

My husband and I love games so we may set up some kind of scavenger hunt type thing that takes us on a stroll down great memory lane.

You may find a daytime cooking class or pottery class or something like that. Perhaps even going to a local winery for a private tour.

Think outside your usual box. Have fun and enjoy each others company.

My husband and I were just talking about this very same thing. I think we're going to go golfing soon! Used to golf here and there years ago and it's fun to do it together. You're in so Cal, too, so the weather is still really nice here. I know it's not for everyone, though :)

Lunch or coffee/dessert and Christmas shopping.
Pool and/or darts at a brew pub.

Go to a theme park and ride the rides. If weather good, a picnic, hike or walk trails in scenic area. Take a drive just to "sight see" places you've never been. Take your camera!
Dress up and go to a fancy place, have your pictures taken. Or something whimsical, go to one of those places that do the "old time pictures" where you dress up like the old west.
Maybe sign up for a dance lesson.
Take a boat ride on a nice lake.

If I were in LA I'd go to the Getty for sure. Romantic, beautiful and oh so adult. To have time to stroll and really enjoy the art would be great.
Other ideas are hike, picnic, beach, Farmer's Market or lunch at a really nice dinner type restaurant. You can splurge on a high end meal for lunch and it saves some $$$$.
Think outside the box and be thankful you're in a place where you have so many great choices!

Honestly, as long as hubby and I get some time alone, we're good. Sometimes it's the movie and lunch/dinner, sometimes it's shopping, sometimes it's something else..whatever works for us that day is what we take advantage of.

On Veteran's Day, we took a long drive out by one of the local lighthouses. It is GORGEOUS down there...that was so nice.
