Advice About a Copper IUD

My husband and I have recently been discussing birth control options. I won't use anything with hormones, so that pretty much narrows it down. My doctor talked to me about having a copper IUD implanted that would have no hormones. I guess what I'd like to know is this......have any of you ever had an IUD or known anyone who has had one??? What was you impression of it? Have you heard anything bad about them?
Thanks so much!!!!

Hi K.,
A friend of mine had the implant. She did get pregnant on it. Her body never took to it. She would have a period for 2 weeks, stop for a few days and then start her period again. She had it for 6 months. Her doctor just kept telling her that her body was still trying to get adjusted to it.

Good luck with what you decide! I am going for Mirena next month!

Hi K.,

I got the Mirena about 2 months ago and love it. My son is now 6 months old and my doctor suggested it at my check up as well. You don't even know it's there. I haven't even had a period yet (but I just stopped breastfeeding a month ago). The doctor said I may not even have one. WHich is great!

Hi there K.! I'm not sure where you're located, but I'm in the Sring/Humble area of North Houston and was wondering if you had any pictures of some cakes you've decorated?
My very low-budget wedding is in October and I'm trying to go about looking and picking a cake and cake maker the thrifty way. Not sure if you're even interested but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask...
You can contact me back through my email at ____@____.com
Thank you!
L. :)

I have had one for a little over 2 years. All-in-all it has been a decent experience having it. The are some differences now that I have it - I have heavier periods with more cramping, and I spot for a little longer than I used to as my period is winding down. Otherwise, I think it's a great non-permanent option for those of us who choose to not use hormones. Good luck!

I had this IUD and I also have polycystic ovary syndrome so this method of birth control made me bleed for about 13 months when the norm for bleeding after it is put in is about 6 months at least. so talk with your doc if you have any problems with your cycles. maybe you should consider the 5 yr IUC Mirena. it is a little better on side effects and can reduce your period down to as little as 3 days.

I just recently had an IUD put in for the first time. It was relatively painless. The greatest thing is that I never have to worry about birth control AND apparently you eventually stop having periods. I can not feel it at all and do not feel it during intercourse. I haven't heard anything bad about them and I think it is the best kind of bc because it does not deliver hormones through your blood. The only bad thing is that I have had light spotting for a few weeks, but it is almost going away after 1 month. I completely recommend getting an IUD!
