Do any of you ladies have any experience with Mirena IUD?
I'm considering getting it instead of birth control pills. But I don't know anyone who has ever used it before.
Any information would be great.
Thanks! ;)

The Mirena is a smooth plastic t shaped IUD. It works by thinking the lining to your uterus and releasing small amounts of hormones to prevent inplantation. I have had it in for over a year now the first 6 months my uterus fluttered and i had no periods , but after my body was use to it i have a few days of spotting when i'm suppose to have my period and no problems... but remember every persons body is different I know of one lady who had to take hers out because her body rejected the foreign object..
And I've only heard a few thing with the paragard. but because it is copper it can react with your body chemistry and make your periods heavy or cramping worse.

Hi L.,

I put a Mirena 5 year hormone non copper about 6 months ago. The only problem I had with it was the cramping in the beginning for about a week and a half. Other than that, It's been great to not stress about remembering to take a pill when it's been about working full time, taking care of the baby and the bigger baby (aka husband). My husband and I decided to have another child when our baby turns 3 so my OB told me the Mirena was appropriate for me. She is the same age and is putting one in for her after she delivers her second child. Good luck!

Hi L.,

I actaully can't tolerate any hormones in my body at all, and so i chose to go with the Paragard Copper IUD instead. Mirena releases hormones and the Paragard doesn't. I have a 2 year old, 2yrs. and 3 months...and I have used it for the last year or so. It's great! It took one minute to insert and i assume takes the same to remove. I don't get any side effects at all, and so far, so good! Just wanted to bring up the Paragard since you are considering IUD, it's just one less chemical in your body, and hormone at that...we all know what hormones can do to us!!! YIKES!!! :) I would check out both on the web.
Here's the link to the Paragard: http://www.paragard.com/paragard/index.php
just copy and paste it in your web browser. Hope this info helps!

Take care,

S.

L.,

I use the Paragard Copper IUD. I had it "installed" a few months after I gave birth. At first it was alittle uncomfortable and I did experience random bleeding from time to time, and heavy bleeding during periods but I was told that was all part of your body getting use to it. Now, 8 months later, I haven't even thought of it till I read your email. For me, who is not intending on being pregnant for awhile and can't take anything with hormones, it's great!

hope that helps!

I have used both the paraguard and the mirena. I loved the paraguard, and was going to get it again after the birth of my son, but my OBGYN talked me into trying the Mirena. I have had it for about a month now. I had a two week long period the day after it was inserted and I haven't stopped spotting since. Now I am starting to get sharp pains in my pelvic area. I go back to the OBGYN next week and I plan on having it removed and replaced with the paragaurd, if possible.

My sister in law uses the Mirena, she loves it, she has tried both, the other one caused her very heavy bleeding. She described it as heavy as not being able to leave her home at times. My doctor and i discussed the IUD a couple of months ago, she told me about both, she actually told me that the mirena was a better way to go cause of the heavy bleeding that the other one will cause. But, i dont know, i guess all the women are right, everything works different on everyone, whats good for someonelse may not be good for you. Good Luck.

I was going to go with the paragard, but my MW told me that if you have a tendency towards cramping & heavy bleeding, paragard will make it much worse, while Mirena makes it better. Since I DO have VERY bad cramping & heavy bleeding, I went with Mirena. There was some random spotting, and even a few days of normal period bleeding, but that's passed now, and everything's peachy!

Hello
I've used many different forms of birth control and finally gave up on the pill. I've used one other IUD and was not happy with it. I had the Mirena inserted at my 6wk postpartum check-up after my second son was born. He is 3yrs old now and I can say that I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!! There is no maintenance, so side-effects (except for some cramping after the insertion for a couple hours, but nothin a little Tylenol didn't cure) I haven't had a period in 3 years, and have not had any complications due to that. From time to time I will spot, but not even enough to use a pantyliner. I opted for the 5 yr one, but after this one expires, I'm going for the 10-year. We don't plan on having anymore kids and I really don't plan on wanting my period back. It has been the best thing ever for me. I specifically requested that brand from my doctor. They had to order it, and I had to pay the insurance co-pay ($25) and an additional $60 for the insertion. I just had my "annual exam" a few months ago and everything was fine and in place!!!!!! I am soo glad I found this birth control, I won't use anything else and I recommend it to everyone!!!!! Now, if only they had something to do away with PMS......

Take care and good luck!
