Hi Moms! My daughter just turned a year old, I tried to stop the formula and tried giving her whole milk. She just didn't like it at all. Any advice you can give me.

What can I do next?

My friend's son didn't crawl at all and started walking at 10mos. Babies are very unpredictable! Don't stress about it, just enjoy the immobility for the time being ;)

I personally think you shouldn't force it. She'll do it at her own time. My baby didn't crawl until he was almost 10 months old. It was actually kind of nice that I could set him down and know that he'd stay in one place for a little bit. It's a whole new world once your babies are mobile.

If you still want to encourage her, though, give her lots of tummy time. Let her kick against something that doesn't move so that she can start propelling herself forward. Show her how to be on all fours. But mostly, don't worry, she'll get it. And enjoy her at this stage now. Once they start moving, you can never go back.

Have you tried playing with toys in her eye line and moving them so that she has to crawl (or roll) to get them? Give her something that her feet can push against, try helping her put her knees under her, and play in front of her so she has to move to join you. Then don't stress. She'll get there eventually, all babies move and do at different ages and stages.

Your daughter will pick it up when she is ready and wants too. My daughter started crawling backwards at 9 months, and my son never crawled and went right to walking. I wouldn't worry to much unless she never moves at all.

I would not force her-each child develops differently. My first walked at 10 months and my second crawled at 3 months and did not sit up on his own until 8-10 months and walked at 1 yr old. Unless the ped thinks there is a developmental issue I would let nature take its course.Good Luck! L.

Hi D., my first one was not crawling at 8 months but it was my fault, he hated the floor since a small baby so everytime he cried I picked him up, well finally my husbandmade me put him down one the floor and leave him down, my husband put some toys just out of his reach, in about 2 days he was crawling. Each baby develops differently. I don't know that you necessarily should "force" it. Everyone has different opinions on that. If you are concerned about any other of her developmental "milestones" and whatnot, ask your Pediatrician.

Has she started to roll over, and sit up yet?

Some say that "crawling" is not a "milestone" per say. Some babies don't crawl and go straight to walking. Some crawl in different methods, each baby differs.

In my state, we have an "early intervention" program that does assessments for children 0-3 years old, and it's free. This is a link about it: http://hawaii.easterseals.com/site/PageServer?pagename=HI...
Maybe your state has a similar program???

I would first ask your Pediatrician though... and see if it is a real concern. Some babies just don't crawl or crawl later.

I hope this helps, and good luck,
~Susan

You can't make a baby crawl, trust me I tried. My daughter didn't crawl til 10 months and didn't walk til 17 months. As long as your girl is getting enough tummy time to strengthen her upper body, she'll decide to move whenshe's good and ready.

You can't really "teach" them to crawl, persay, and she isn't even technically behind yet- children develop at different rates, so mention it to your ped at her 9 month check up, but don't stress.

However, you can encourage her. Make sure she gets lots of tummy time- the average age for crawling actually went up when the "back to sleep" campaign was in full swing because babies were spending less time on their tummies (not saying that's a bad thing- definately put babies on their back to sleep!, just a fact). I always let my DD play on her stomach until she started to get fussy, and I would let her fuss for just a minute (or less) before I picked her up. And if there is something just out of her reach that she wants, let her struggle to get it for a minute. She'll get it! Or maybe she'll just skip crawling!

no nothing is wrong with your baby. my nephews didnt crawl hands and knees until 9 1/2mo. also remember what also counts as crawling- scooting on the butt, pulling with just the arms, rolling everywhere, and army crawling. also some kids never craal. as long as shes developmenting fine everywhere else i wouldnt worry at all. just give it time. oh yeah what i did with my little girl was i bought things that rolled so it made her want to go after it. that helped a lot. good luck!
