Seeking Good Formula for Reflux Baby Rejected All So Far

Does anyone have any experience / advice concerning refulx babies and formula?
My 4 month old is on prevacid and simethecone ( for the wind) and has rejected elecare and neocate given to us by a specialist. I have been pumping madly to give him bottles of breast milk at bedtime to help him sleep better but my milk supply is running low and I cannot avoid going back to work any longer.

Does anyone know any formulas that are not too rough on the stomach and have a decent flavour? the above are disgusting it is no wonder he has refused them. He also doubled over in pain with "gentlease" and the regular enfamil.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This is a further update. We gave our son one bottle only for two nights , all other feeds were breastfeeeds.
In the bottle we put 2/3 breastmilk and 1/3 good start supreme natural cultures ( green label was all they had at local store) . Good news: he actually drank it so obviously didn't mind the taste, the BAD news: he hasn't been in this much pain since his reflux was unmedicated. Or the nights we tried ' gentle ease' and regular enfamil

I will go and buy the original good start and give that a go and failing that, try their soy formula. This feels like a horrible experiment at the moment at my son's expense but hopefully we will have a sollution for him tonight.

A good friend of mine has had to deal with this same problem. She used a gentle ease formula and found that the walmart brand worked the best (and was much cheaper). But she also used a bottle with drop ins because she could squeeze out the extra air.

I am the mother of 3 boys all of which rejected the average formula including soy based. We ended up on Carnation Good Start. It truly was a godsend!!!! Try it. Good luck:)

Have you tried neutremagen it is a little nasty but it worked on my grandnephew when he was 2 months old he had the same problem. My niece had a hard time getting him to take it so I helped by keeping him for the weekend. Its rough but you will need someone to help because that person will have to bare the childs crying and refusels but when the child gets hungry enough he will drink the formula and get to like it. good luck

And here's a link on how to increase milk supply:

You might want to try breastfeeding your baby at night... sometimes with pumping it does not get out as much milk... that is what I found, and with friend's as well. The body will naturally adjust it's milk production according to when and how much a baby is nursing. The longer a baby nurses, the more milk will be produced. Milk production is a fickle thing... but making sure the baby is suckling properly and nursing long enough to get the hind milk is important. Perhaps your milk supply, at night, is decreasing because you are not nursing at night... and the more bottles you give, you thereby "skip" a breastfeeding and thus, the body will start to decrease it's milk production.

I know it's hard your baby having reflux... my friend's baby had that as well. She tried formula as well, per her doctor. It was fine for her baby, but then her milk supply diminished as well, and her baby wasn't getting enough intake. So then she just went exclusively to formula.

Hope the links help. Good luck and take care,
~Susan

you might want to try ULTRA KID CARE by Metagenics. it is a rice formula - non-allergenic. i am using it while i return to work because pumping stinks for me too. i get it from my chiropractor. it is a really high quality, pure meal replacement powder so you cannot find it at a pharmacy or GNC type of place

also, i wouldn't recommend soy formula as it is 98% corn syrup (same ingredient in candy!). also, goat's milk is the most similiar in make-up to breast milk. you can do 1/3 goats milk, 1/3 carrot juice, and 1/3 water combo and it's like mama's milk. are you in california? you can get great raw carrot juice from trader joes and the goat's milk or try whole foods or another health food store. if you aren't near trader joe's you might want to get a juicer and make your own carrot juice (see if he likes it first) because it can be pricey - but get raw !! so that it has the nutrients

sorry, keep thinking of more stuff - another thing to try is Ultra Flora form Metagenics or Probio Defense from Xymogen - these are high quality forms of acidopholus (the healthy bacteria in yogurt that aids in digestion and other areas of the digestive system) formulas are difficult for their new tummies to deal with and this could help. breast is best though =)

my daughter had really bad reflux. The only thing she tolerated was enafmil prosobee. It smells really bad but it really helped her. She still at the age of 2 is on soy.

Hey C.,
My now ten year old daughter was born with colic, and I tried every formula available back then to ease her stomach pain. An ER doctor one night recommended Carnation Good Start stating that it has something in it that is gentler on their tummies than what is in Similac and Enfamil. It used to be cheap, but now it's about the same, they even make a version for colic which I know is not reflux, but it may be gentler. After we switched, her problems basically went away. I hope this helps.

Hello my cousin had the same problem with her infant as well as I did. Try Similac organic. I don't know what bottles you are using. We both used Playtex natural shape. Hope this helps. Good luck.
