Accidents Out of the Blue

I went through 5 weeks of this with my daughter! She had been completely potty trained for some time...All of a sudden she was having accidents all over the place. after about a week and a half, I took her to urgent care thinking it was a bladder infection, results said negative...but the accidents persisted...I made an appointment with her regular doctor and same thing, tests were negative, but they said that sometimes the "quick" test arent that accurate, so they sent it off...sure enough it WAS a bladder infection...poor girl...I would suggest making an appointment with his doctor. They kept telling me that it was stress related (We hadnt had any major changes either)...It could also just be that reverting pack period that I hear some kids go through, its like 5 steps forward, then they take 3 steps back and then never have a problem again...

Is he able to communicate with you...you might try talking with him. You may not have had any major trauma that YOU know of, but there might be something that is traumatic to him. I have seen this so often in my own son and in my friend's son. Maybe he witnessed something at a friends or even at the grocery store. Unfortunately, it is hard to narrow down the cause of something that may just be an internal stress for him.

I personally would recommend being very understanding, trying to talk to him about any possible fears or stress he might have right now and just work on getting him back into his normal habit/routine.

My friend has a 7 year old that does the same thing on occassion when he gets stressed out about something. He eventually calms down and goes back to his normal routines. My son does it all too often and he is 7 as well. You might also talk to your pediatrician...sometimes they can be really helpful in diagnosing the cause or even just being a third party for your son to work with through whatever it is.

Is he starting a growth spurt? Sometimes when the body starts doing something new, like growing, the child forgets something they just learned.

Like another poster replied, five steps forward, three backwards. I remember talking with my MIL (she has an ECE degree) about something similar when my son was younger. A child may learn something new, like how to write their name; but forget how to do the puzzle they've been doing since they could walk. I think it has to do with brain development, and the body trying to adjust to all the new things happening.

If there is nothing new in his life or his diet, the next most likely culprit is that he is getting sick. If he had two massive poop accidents in one day, then that sounds like abnormal bowel movements caused by being sick... most people only go once a day.

Possibly encopresis, my daugher had this...
