I am looking for a christian church that my son and I can go to. I am catholic, my son is baptized catholic, and my husband is baptist. I preferr catholic, but I am looking for something that has a sunday school for my son. I like traditional service and an environment that is family oriented. I live in the Davie area, near 441 and 595.

What can I do next?

Hi S., I myself was catholic, but didnt feel that it was connecting me with God the way it shouldve. My friend took me one time to the Calvary Chapel of Ft. Lauderdale and I loved it. I can't go every week because it is far from me but I watch the service online when I have a chance. Check it out, I am sure you will enjoy it. You can watch online to see if it is what you are looking for, their web site is http://www.calvaryftl.org just click where it says active word media. their address is
2401 West Cypress Creek Rd
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
Phone: ###-###-####
They also have sunday school and a section for mothers who need to feed their babies.
Hope that helps,

Hi S.,

I noticed that no one responded to you with a Catholic church suggestion. I am Catholic, my son is baptized Catholic and my husband is Lutheran. We are registered at St. Mark's in Southwest Ranches (next door to Flamingo Road Church - Flamingo Road just north of Stirling) and I know that they have a "babysitting service" for ages 1 to 4 1/2 during the 9:30 mass. The kids basicallly do some biblical stories and as they get older some arts/crafts activities. Website: http://www.stmarknet.com/masses_%26_services.htm

We also attend St. David's in Davie (just north of Griffin on University Drive) and they are super family friendly but the expectation is that children will attend mass with you. The 10am mass is geared for that and it rarely lasts longer than 40 minutes. Very traditional mass but the priests understand that little ones have a short attention span. They always have good music, understanding that is often the favorite part of the kids. Website: http://www.saintdavid.org/church.asp. My non-Catholic husband is very comfortable at St. Davids which is part of the reason that we attend frequently.

I'm guessing that your parish is probably Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. It is a very Hispanic church next door to St. Thomas High School and has always been super child friendly since they also have a Catholic K-8 school there. They aren't online, so you would have to call them.

You can find some info on parishes and contact info for them online at: http://www.miamiarch.org/

I hope you can find something that meets all of your needs and makes you feel welcome. I also attend the St. Gregory Mommy and Me group, since St. Mark's suggested it when I asked for such a ministry. It is great, you can read about it on their bulletin at: http://www.cherubim.org/

God Bless, C.

I know, a TAD late, but.....nativity catholic church in hollywood...johnson st and 50th. they have a sunday school, if i remember correctly. they are traditional, but a tad modern, and the church is beautiful. I went to school there and attend mass when possible. St. gregory's is also very nice. I have attended Calvary chapel and I thought it was great and my almost 2 yr old daughter loved it in the toddler area. It is a tad far but worth it. they are building one off of flamingo rd in davie, which will be much closer to you. The flamingo road church I hear is just like Calvary Chapel.

Hi S., We go to flamingo road church. It has an excellent children's ministry. We use to attend a baptist church down in miami and are very happy with flamingo because we moved up here. They are very similar in the teachings and the pastors do preach from the Bible. The website is www.flamingoroadchurch.com. They have several campus around south florida. We attend the one in cooper city. It is not traditional, which is what we were use to as well, but we have adjusted and we love it.

We go to the same Calvary Church in Forth Lauderdale that someone else mentioned. Although, it is a little bit of a drive for us coming from North Miami Beach. I think we'll try Flamingo Road Church since another mom on here recommended it.
