I have a 9mo. and the last two nights he hasn't gone to sleep until almost 11p. He has always gone to sleep at around 7p every night and I am not sure why this changed overnight for him, he also would take 2-3 naps a day and now the last two days I am lucky to get him to take one.I give him a warm bath and rock him and that still won't work. Any Suggestions ?

What can I do next?

Your son probably is overwhelmed with all his new discoveries, and learning new things that it excites him, and he can't sleep. This is what happened with my son. Does he have a full tummy before bedtime? Sometimes if they are still hungery, they don't go to sleep very good. Their schedule does change quite a bit because of them growing up and learning new things etc., and right now you'll have to may be adjust to his schedule for the time being. Or, if you can, get him up a little earlier in the morning say, by 7am and only allow one nap if he's tired enough to take one, and do calming activities in the early evening to help him settle down more. Do you have a Mommy Bear? They work wonders...They have the sound of the mother's womb and it works on our son, as well as on my husband and I! :-) I hope you find something that works for you. Best wishes, G.

Not sure if you baby is teething, but they say that when they teeth they have "wakefulness". I know that my son who is 10 months used to sleep from 7pm-6am. Now he goes to bed later and sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night. But it may be teething. Good luck!

I have three girls 5,4, 11 months and they all have had different sleep patterns. When my 5 yr old was about 10 months she all of a sudden stopped taking naps and she would fall asleep at about 9 or 10 pm and usally sleep all night and stayed that way. When my 4 yr old was a baby she slept all day and didn't sleep at night and I tried every thing to change it, but she changed on her own when she was about 9 months and then she would sleep all night from 10pm to 10am and take one nap that was about 4 hours long during the day. She still takes about a two hour nap during the day. My 11 month old takes 1 or 2 naps a day about 1to2 hours long. She has recently started falling asleep at about 8 or 9pm and wakes up too early at 5 or 6 am. So don't be too conserned if his sleeping patterns change from time to time. Well I hope this helps you.

Babies habits change for several reasons. If you can rule out teething, then consider diet. Is he on any solid foods? Pediatricans usually advise veggies before fruits. I assume he is eating cereal. Many babies will wake because they are hungry but this can be avoided if you feed them solids an hour or so before bedtime. What time does he wake in AM? He may be adjusting to one nap per day. Lots of exercise will help wear him out. Wait until he is sleepy to rock him. Good luck!
